If kid is in K2, u could sign up for their Power Learning Camp, which actually to prepare the kid for p1. It's only a 5 day programme, and to me its a great programme cause they not only basic academics. But what is covered are the values and the right attitudes towards learning. It think the right mindset for P1 preparations are the most important.

U could then proceed to sign up for their english / maths course and they'll automatically deduct the course fees for you such that by the end of the one year enrichment, the fees u pay for the Power Learning Camp is nil !

My son was there cause the dad refused to let me help him, cause nowadays the way they teach their Maths is so completely different from my times. There are quite a few tutors who claim that they are ex-teachers, but in fact, they have basically taught as relief teachers, and are not nie-trained at all.

In fact, one should probably sense something amiss if someone who claims to be an ex-teacher is charging undergrad/grad rates. To answer your question about the market rate, our nie-trained teachers are charging $40 to $50 for primary school. And yes, we specifically state that they must be nie-trained before they can identify themselves as a teacher.

They are clueless as to how to guide their kids or what to teach them. As such, they turn to tuition for help.

For P1, I go through mostly basic grammar and vocabulary during the first semester. Second semester focuses on writing, comprehension and synthesis & transformation.

For Maths, basic concepts are done together with Problem Solving and heuristics. Many kids that come to me can't even add/subtract numbers within 10 without using their fingers. In such cases, they might not be able to catch up in school as the teacher goes through the first 2 topics rather quickly.

If your child can do the following, then I think there's no immediate need for tuition:
English
- Read well without guidance
- Understand basic grammar rules (singular, plural, subject-verb agreement)
- Able to write a short story with at least 3-5 sentences
E.g.
I am May. I am a girl. I am six years old. I go to Bobo Kindergarten.

Are they getting the results they pay for? Or is this an industry built on smoke and mirrors?\"

When my gal was in P1 last year, I only sent her for Chinese Enrichment class mainly because of the Hanyu Pinyin. During her K2 years, there wasn't much exposure in this area so I was abit worried that she might not catch up with the curriculum. Thankfully, the centre teacher was very dedicated and patient with her and her Chinese result was satisfactory

Maybe someone may like to comments on the Special Report mentioned?

send you a pm. :celebrate:

sweet60
