Gaining weight in a healthy way takes time and consistency. Make sure to feed your child proteins, healthy fats, carbs, fruits, and vegetables. It is important to give them proper and balanced nutrition.

My approach concentrated on nutrient-dense foods instead of just bigger portions. A calorie-rich but healthy foods like eggs, cheese, yogurt, and nut butters. Maybe get him to eat rather than drink for recess? Does he eat meat and veg with his rice? Try to get him to eat more nutrient-dense food like meat, dairy (but not milk), eggs, nuts, tofu etc. You don't really want to encourage titbits and sweets - a lot of sugar, fat and salt, and a bad habit to build up. He may not always be thin, then he will have to change his habits.

sharonkhoo

Reply to How can a child gain weight? For building muscle, he will need good sources of protein such as meat, fish, eggs, tofu etc. Milk is good, but you should limit him to 2 cups a day to encourage him to eat more protein. Bread - is it white? If so, switch to wholemeal. Are his many meals nutrient-rich or just snacky stuff? What about fruits? I wouldn't worry too much about veg since he is taking some. Bein skinny is not really a problem as some kids just have that kind of body type, but getting sick often is a sign that something is not quite right.
