Most important thing about memory techniques is applying to your child’s regular school work. In that way, will always practise and that helps to improve memory. My dd’s English tutor also taught her to apply interesting memory techniques to remember new vocabulary and spelling such as drawing images and using mnemonics, eg: Miss Pells always misspells her words (mispells vs misspells). Her tutor always encourages them to come up with new ways to remember and I find that very useful because it is more meaningful to her when she finds her own ways to remember.

For example, if you’ve told him to set the table for five people, ask him to come up with a mental picture of what the table should look like. Then have him draw that picture. As he gets better at visualizing, he can describe the image to you instead of needing to draw it. I use this method with my son and it helps him a lot!
