If purely based on PSLE results, the boys taken in by Maris Stella range 227-249 (affiliated cut off 227; non aff slightly higher at 231). ACS Barker affiliated COP 152-245 and Non-affiliated 192-196. Such score stats signify a fairly different profile type of students 😉 Of course other factors such as public perceptions of the boys, religion, distance from your house, CCA offered etc etc.

Lets just face it Boys are Boys, its normal to be naughty. (stop being so demanding)
2) Yup, being in ACS Secondary Schools DOESNT allow his kid to enter ACS.
3) ACSBR is a special school, very different from many other schools. Not because it has rich kids or whatsoever. It is the kind of students they have, the good school programmes the school has installed. and yes, a school spirit.
4) Don't worry about the schools banding or whatsoever. Who cares if they are not academically inclined for now? In time to come, they will succeed. You just don't know how many graduates from this school have gotten scholarships, started business and going into respected professions such as Medicine and Law.
5) Merry Christmas.

My church has a fair number of youths from ACSBR. I find them unassuming, helpful, with their own unique brand of quirky humour.

I've heard some wonderful things about Mr Peter Tan, the principal. One of the boys told me that he and his wife have moved into the school campus and they live there now. Amazing! Such commitment to his charges. I am sure ACSBR will flourish under his watch.

it was mentioned somewhere in this forum it is going to be at the existing Bishan ITE. But then .... no official announcement from MOE yet.

it's like buying an insurance policy for the next 10 years having peace, so much lesser amount of reduced stress at PSLE. The child can have a choice - to go affliated Secondary schools awaiting them, or choose other schools.

lucky ACS parents, lucky Maris Stella parents, lucky Catholic High parents, lucky SCGS, MGS, CHIJ, St Andrew, St Hilda parents & parents from all other affliated schools .... all are very lucky 😂

btw, any school occupying the Police Academy now ?
the new JC must be very large - in order to accomdate not 2, but 3 big combined schools of A level boys and girls.

from outside, because i see this ACS Junior primary school very huge, grand, impressive looking, so i thought maybe also got Secondary school inside. I din know it’s only primary school.

after P6 PSLE, boys from combined schools (ACS Junior primary + ACS Barker primary) have a choice - go either affliated ACSI or affliated ACS Barker Secondary.

The location of the brand new college is still TOP SECRET at the moment, but I heard from a fairly reliable source that it will be within triangle bounded by the 3 schools ... your guess is as good as mine! I suspect it will be in Thomson / Upper Thomson area.
My guess is somewhere around Bishan. But Thomson is a good area as it's not too far from all three schools.

curious … the newspaper article didn’t mention the physical location of this brand new Junior College to be set up by 2017, ie. where they’re going to build this new JC that will combine 3 Secondary schools together for A level, namely Catholic High boys, St Nicholas Girls’ and the Singapore Chinese Girls’.

i think if they dun come in at Sec 1 via IP programme, i think Maris Stella boys after Yr 4 want to go other JC may be difficult, due to limited vacancies left at Yr 5 & 6. Most of the seats would have been snapped up at Sec 1. I suppose easier for MS boys to go affliated CJC.

I beg your pardon. I could be wrong about eligibity for ACSP Phase 2A. My assumption is based on the practice of another school I am familiar with, which I know for sure gives kids of alumni of the secondary school priority for P1 reg, even if the father had not studied at the primary school.

Dear phtthp,

a) No, ACS pri boys are free to choose sec schs based on PSLE / DSA results. Many choose ACSI/ACS(BR) as the COP for affiliates is lower than that for non-affiliates. However, some of the top boys defect to IP schools. I personally know a few at Raffles, as well as a few who are hoping to go there.

b) Again, it's all based on results. All ACS/ACSI boys get 2 pts off for affiliates at ACJC. Those in ACSI on the 6-year IB program will stay on in ACSI. In Year 5, they will be joined by boys & girls who have done well enough at GCEO & who choose to do IB there.

ACSI boys on the GCEO track can choose their next school based on results. Many of the Barker boys probably won't qualify for ACJC with its single-digit COP for Sc/Arts (2005 table here: http://www.physics.com.sg/jcranking.htm) - but they can go to other JC/poly.

c) Kids do not need to go to affiliated JCs, but many do as they get 2 pts off for affiliates. So, if CJC's L1R5 COP is 6 pts (say), then kids from Maris Stella & other Catholic schools need only 8 points to qualify. Or even 10, if they did OK for HMT or have scored 2 points for CCA. Max deduction is 4 pts. Of course, those who have busted the limit will have to look for other JCs/poly, unless they go in through DSA. Straight A students will typically try for top-tier JCs.

NB: The pressure on CJC will be off soon as SJI will be having its own 6-year IB program. Kids from St Nicks + Cat High + SCGS taking PSLE next year can choose to do IP in their respective secondary schools (if they meet the COP), followed by Year 5&6 at a yet-to-be-built JC affiliated to these 3 schools. SCGS is not a Catholic school and is not affiliated to CJC nor any other JC currently. They, together with SNGS and CHS will form a new JC in the near future.

Erm, correct me if I'm wrong, but i thought a child qualifies for ACPS Phase 2A only if the father studied at ACPS. Studying at ACS (Barker) doesn't give that advantage right?
