Warm wishes to all parents.

I came to this forum after reading about it in the new paper. I am a Newcastle and Eason Chan fan hence my nick.

First time father. My daughter Grace was born on the 1st Jan 2010. She is only 8 months now but I am definitely a kiasu parents. So hope to learn from everyone here.

My first enrichment class was the baby spa in Northpoint to get her to do some swimming.

Now thinking what to do next.

Any ideas anyone?

Then I'm thinking of ballet at SBA and Chinese classes at Berries.

This is because she has a very good sense of music and rhythm. Now if she hears music, particularly Mozart and hip-hop, she will start dancing.
I know, very different music genres right?
The Chinese lessons are to prepare her for P1 @ Ai Tong where her papa is an old boy.

I looked through your list, I think you have a prepared a very thorough one. Discuss with your DW and decide what you think is best for Grace.

Since DD turned 9 months young about two months ago, we started her on some home lessons.
She has English flashcard lessons on DVD (ten mins, repeated once daily) and Chinese handheld flashcards (5 mins, repeated once daily). The routine is once when she wakes up in the morning, after her breakfast and brushing of teeth, repeated once, after her afternoon nap, snack and brushing of teeth.

At night, before her bedtime, DD has her milk, brush her teeth and we read her books with her. She has 3 bedtime books. One is a big-flap book, one is a touch and feel book, and the last one is an ordinary baby book with animals and numbers. She loves to read and gets very excited when she sees us bring the books from the shelves to her mattress.

When we are in the car, we play baby Mozart (DD's favorite) and children's songs in English and Chinese. She is able to hum a few of her favorites. I didn't buy and Barney cds for fear that it may make me rabid 😛

Throughout the day, whenever she is playing in the tv room, we play DVDs in English (nursery rhymes) and Chinese (Tang poems). She watches for awhile then goes about her business playing and singing to herself.
Infants at this age will have very very short attention span. Especially when they start crawling and walking, they are mentally and physically very busy.

It's okay. Don't be discouraged.
Just keep to the program you want her to be exposed to. Soon her will be excited to see the particular DVD or book you have prepared for her, and will come to you or sit quietly, waiting for things to start.

You are Grace's Daddy and by coming here, have displayed the desire to do good by her and participate in her growth. Well done :celebrate:

Today I make another baby step as I email all the schools that provide right brain training so shall go attend the preview course and take it from there.

I have an old army mate who is a teacher at Ai Tong so I heard lots of good about the school but I dont even want to think about that yet.

Papa here is very into Cantonese and mandarin pop so Grace will probably grow up with those music...and songs from Eason chan...

My SIL is an ex-teacher.She home school all her 3 kids. The first 2 are twins and there are not even in P1 yet. They already turn 7 yrs old but I guess the parents are quite confident. There also dont go for much enrichment except ballet, piano and chinese classes.

However Grace environment is totally different as everyone in the family - my DW and my parents all chinese speaking. My DW is also not too academically incline so I am tasked to handle DD education and for DW her health.

I do read books to her every night - sometimes just 5 minutes as I am too tired. We go to the library every 2 weeks so books are free. She is quite excited to see the books and listen to my reading. That encourages me to keep going. 😎

Now I have task DW to go to this website with Grace everyday and play it to her.

One of the main reason I came to this forum is to find the next course of enrichment for my girl who is now 8 months old...born on 1.1.2010 incase you miss it earlier.

I finally read finished all the 14 pages this morning...

So far what I gather most people send their kids who are between 7 - 18 months to

1) Shichida (right brain training) - it seems got a few different schools offering right brain training...so also dont know which one to chose.

2) Berries (for chinese lessons)

3) Seimpi and Kindermusik (music school)

4) my gym (for physical exercise)

5) Zoo phonics (I think for english lang learning)

Did I miss out anything?

And I probably would not consider swimming, piano, abacus , drama and other stuff yet.

So my question is how do you parents decide? It seems everything is important at least the first 5 types I mentioned. Of course it would be good if can go for everything but I think my budget would probably allow for 1 or 2.

I know probably some other threads might have already discuss all these doubts but due to my time constraints I am doing as much research as I could. So if anyone could give any advice based on your experience or point me to the right thread, I would really appreciated.

It isn't a tough call now as Grace is your one and only.
IMHO, I would bring her to the doctor if she is unwell/different from her everyday self.
For infants, expert advice is better than parental instinct, just in case 😄

How many sessions did you signed up for? I think the spa doing so well I heard 4th branch opening soon.

We signed up at Northpoint because my Mom lives in Yishun, so she can enjoy watching her granddaughter swim as well. When DD had her first swim (about 3 months young), she enjoyed it so much, we signed up for 10 lessons (thank goodness). For the next two months, she cried everytime we put her in the jacuzzi 😢
So we stopped fro almost 2 months.
It was only when she turned 8 months until now (11 months today) :love: that she started to enjoy the jacuzzi, especially when they turn the \"whirling\" on 😄

My DD is in the baby spa @ Northpoint.
Joining swimming competition as well :oops:

Yes...I signed up at Dhoby Ghaut where I first saw the spa. Northpoint quite far for us. Later I found the northpoint got bigger pool and also the service at DG is bad so I switch. Though it is farther but both parents and child enjoy more. Grace grew tired of small pool pretty fast.

The sales girl at DG nearly persuaded me to sign up 20 lessons. Lucky wife stopped me and we only did 10. I am unsure if it is really useful but I did it for family bonding. Now I still got 2 more sessions left. Infact this friday holiday I will likely be there at northpoint.

Ok I will go read now. I can only chose the one that interest her most. I got ballet (I feel must for girls) and piano already in mind. However limited resources I have (piano so expensive) so reality would be probably differ from what I dream of. I love music so probably she will pick up some instrument if not piano
