Afer that she joined Shichida again at age 3 but had to stopped because my second one was coming along and we jsut couldn’t juggle anymore. My second DD is still with shichida now at 2 years and I plan to let her continue till 3 years old.

13mths is a good time to start shichida, it will expose her to "school" concept.

For Berries, they start excepting at Nursery level so maybe age 3? Zoophonics has various programmes. They take in at 18 mths onwards for once / week classes and 2.5 years for daily classes (if I’m not wrong).

I say this because my DD was with Han languange before for 2 years before I swtiched her to Berries after good feedbacks. Han is quite bad really, regretted sending her there. Han is like tuition class which I feel is more suitable for bigger kids and not pre-schoolers. For Berries, the class is conducted in a fun way and they have homework which they need to complete with their parents. It’s a means to let know you how much they have covered and also serves as a revision. The curriculum is better set up and organised with proper books and printed materials instead of "photocopies". They learn comprehension and han yu pinyin among other things. Sometimes they do some craft work which may not be really "reading and writing" but I think it’s good too because they learn to listen to instructions in chinese.
In my DD’s class, they have 2 teachers attending to them rather than just 1 which is definitely better since more attention can be given to poorer slower students. I’m not sure about other outlets if they do the same by the Woodlands one is the one my DD attends.

However, I do have a friend who enrolled her son to K2 in Berries but was asked to be put in K1 because her son’s level of chinese wasn’t good enough at that point. So I think they go by the children’s capability too.

Yes, they have a trial lesson at $15. They will deduct the $15 if you decide to enrol.

I like this thread!

I have a 16 months ds so I suppose my kid fall about the same age as most of yours. I need more comments on LNT ( Bt Timah Branch). Please tell me the progress of your child.

I will be sending mine to CS Montessori (Bt Timah)..dunno good or not but will update.

So far, my ds tried the trial classes with Kindermusik, Gymboree, Baby Play Gym, My Little Play Gym, Mother & Child. I think if you are keen, take the trial classes because every kid is different.

Reports from my experience with ds:
Kindermusik: He tried when he was 9mths. The teacher was singing and using different instruments but not really engaging. You can see some parents bringing the kids there for the sake of bringing. Some kids wonder around (just like mine  ). Maybe older would have been better.

Gymboree (Harbour Front): Complete disappointment. The centers employ mainly Filipino who are great singers. But thats their only forte. They seems to be doing things at their own pace leaving struggling parents to follow them. The centers looks very cramped and I was not happy to see they did not protect certain parts of the wooden slides well ( I can see screws jutting out!) Not safe. And I hate to compete with other parents.

Baby Play Gym:
Good teachers, well protected facilities. They focus on flashcards and have a gym activities after the lesson. Too bad ds is already on GD and looks bored with seeing flashcards again. Recommend to join if staying in the West and am looking for something (language+play) for kids on weekends.

Mother & Child:
This is for tai tai. I went for the trial with ds when he was 9mths while I was clearing my maternity. In fact this was the first enrichment he went.Lots of ang moh kids..very much like Kindermusik but I think this is better as it involves more singing and child participation.

Little Play Gym: ds is there every weekend and he is continuing with them next term thou at the Forum branch. The ones in Marina all full...good business. This one is good. The instructors are all very professional. It is opened by a Filippino ( so I am not discriminating Filippino here eh.. )but better than Gymboree. Space is much bigger with ds running and screaming around every week. Very safe. ds can fall and I can just sit on the walking beam waiting for him to get up himself.

BTW, I am not interested in Shichida as I went there with dh and we find them too commercialise. We do not like the idea of our innocent young ones learning mind-reading..kind of eerie to us.. :!: That is the reason I am opting Montessori to Shichida-type (LNT) but my options are still open if LNT is good...

Lets continue sharing.... :celebrate:

Welcome Welcome

I intend to keep this thread going so we can all share our experiences.

Thanks so much for sharing.

I chose LNT Jurong mainly because of location but I chose LNT group as over little genius and Shichida.

This is from my experience talking to the sales staff...I never did any trial class.

Little Genius gave me impression they dont have much to offer and quite expensive.

Shichida gave me the same expression as what you described and the staff attitude is like they got more than enough business. You want you come if not nevermind.

LNT gave me the best impression so I finally enrol my DD there. After 3 months we did not see much effect. I dont think its the school fault as they already mentioned full impact is at least 2 years. The teachers and staff are all very helpful and friendly. I can see them putting in effort. These are all the staff at the Jurong branch.

Now my DD completed 3 months at LNT, my DW suggest trying kindermusik so we might go there. We have stopped at LNT mainly as my budget probably allow for DD one enrichment course only.

I just check the website edufarm thanks to lil_jade.

:celebrate:

Brainkid

Reply to Which enrichment class to recommend for 1 yr old toddler? on Sun, 26 Dec 2010 14:49:35 GMT

claricegoh:
Hi Folks,

I will be attending the class in Jan. Now my DD is already 11 months old.

She just almost completed her little Neuro Tree course at Jurong East. To be very honest because of her age (only 11 months now) we can see much effect of the course.

Little Neuro also just changed their name. I think now should be different management.

Now DW is considering not to continue there for next term but to go over to Kinder musik to try because she heard from friend that it is good and fun.

Anyone can advise me what you think?

I also posted before if anyone want to sell their old used Flashcard at discount pls PM me...still looking for cheaper flashcards.

Thanks !

How about the rest of you who contributed to this thread. Any updates to share?

Perhaps we can keep this thread going as an update and learn from each other as our kids grow together. Our kids more or less about same age.

Hi EASON MAGPIES,

Can you tell us what changes did you discover for yr DD after attending LNT course? LNT has changed their name? Do u hv any idea what's the new name of the school?

Just to share...My girl attended the Shichida Method for nearly 1 term already and what I have discovered is she could recall quite a number of things that the teachers taught. But one thing bad about her is she could not really sit still throughout the lesson. Some of the things that she don't like, she will just got off her seat and walk around. Afterall, I found that more or less she got a hang of it already and I'm quite pleased with it.

Any other mummies or daddies would like to share yr experiences too?

Yes, let's keep this thread moving!

Sorry may I ask how old is your girl now? Mine got about 2 lessons left for LNT and she is now 11 months. We have done flashing card for her at home but I admit is not daily...maybe every 2-3 days and we do have limited cards. I cannot really see much effect. I was wondering is it because she is too young or it takes longer than 1 term to see effect.

How do you discover she can recall things? Do you show her pictures for her to point out? Mine also she will distract at times when she attends her lesson. Only attentive when actually flashing card when singing songs.

So now my wife suggest we stop a term and try kindermusik next term instead and come back after that. I still considering.

This is the email LNT sent to me about their new name and program for next term. I pasted it here for your reference.

5 December 2010

Dear parents,

Come January 2011, we will be launching an enhanced brain stimulation programme at Hougang and Jurong East - My Little GeniusTM. I don't show her flashcards everyday too as I'm really too tired for it. What I can see is she could recall those songs that the teachers played during the class. As for the flashcards, in fact, before sending her to SM, I hv already started her off and now she could point or show me the action/item once I flash the word cards to her. I think SM is only a supplement, if u really wana go deep into it, parents really have to play their part at home. This is what I believe.

Seems like My Little Genius are including more programs in their curriculum. Can anybody feedback after attending? Thanks!

faithgurl
