Maybe they make more money selling idea of franchise to potential owner than on programmes they offer. So 4 Brainfit Classrooms and 4 Brainfit Studios close within 3 years? Not good record with 90% closure rate. Gotta feel bad for franchisee owners who sunk money in and have to close so soon after opening. How long before Novena centre close? At the end of the course, they did a review compared with when he first started, came to conclusion he had reached the ‘Average’ child’s concentration / cognitive bar but at border line [he was previously deemed as below the average bar for these areas]. It was recommended he continues with another term.

The father does not subscribe to these trainings at all and thought i was throwing $$ down the drain and insisted i stopped the courses for him. My DS did well for year end exams and did improve on concentration, writing skills so i took him off the classes.

This year, his previous symptoms of overly active in class, slow in finishing his work, showed up again. I am thinking of putting him back into the program [pls don’t get me wrong at this point, he is still doing well in his school just that behaviour wise, i am getting constant feedback from teachers; DS is not ADHD though but was diagnosed as having some motor skills issues].

I wonder if the reason his issues are back to hound him is because he had only just ‘reached’ the border line of an average kid’s concentration/cognitive level and really need another term of the training to ‘push’ him to the a comfortable ‘average’ zone? The only hesitation i have is once off the program, would his issues be back again?
But guess, i’d have to try to find out.

Main reason i am still going to put him back into the classes as i have seen the teachers taking charge of the classes are certified ones - some with OT background.

Not sure of the closing down of the other centres, etc. but at least the one at Novena does seem credible.

My two cents worth for parents out there searching.

PS: I have also never done the "Fast Forward" progamme mentioned, thus, cannot comment on that.

I decided to share my experience here.
My child has learning difficulties and has not been doing well in school since P2. In June last year, I decided to give Brainfit Classroom a try as traditional tuition won’t really help him due to his very short attention span. I would like to share that I see improvements in my child’s academics since he attended Brainfit Classroom @ Kovan. First of all, before attending the class, he was not able to express himself well in terms of speech. His sentences were in broken forms like puzzles and we would have to piece them up and prompt him in order to understand what he wanted to tell. At about 3 months into the programme, we noticed significant changes in him as he was "suddenly" able to structure his sentences better when speaking although there are still short pauses in between. He is now one year into the programme and we begin to see improvements in his academics as well although he still has a lot of catching up to do. In our recent meet up with his school teachers, his teachers also agreed they see improvements in him. I am going to let him continue at the center. And most important of all, he enjoys the programme and looks forward to attend and do his Fast Forward practices at home whenever he has time in the evening.

This is the experience I have with Brainfit Studio. Hope it helps.

He is in p3 now. He has visual processing difficulties and has short attention span.

The Fast Forward program is used interchangeably with the Reading Assistant program, ie one term of each program. I will pay to subscribe for access to the Fast Forward program during the Reading Assistant term so I want him to have daily practises. I had spoken to medical practitioners and have my own beliefs in how the brain works and I also notice that it is useful for him.

I am undecided if I should continue beyond p3. To be clear, it is not because it is no good. Rather it is because his weakness is in open-ended Comprehension and essay writing and given the limited time that we have on weekend, it may perhaps be better if I send him for writing class instead. That said, I will continue with my Fast Forward subscription as I am happy with the progress in terms of his visual processing.

I subscribed for both programs last year (1 term for Reading Assistant and 2 terms for Fast Forward) when my DD was sitting for her PSLE. She has her normal enrichment class so this is supplementary.

We are disappointed to hear that you did not have a positive experience with us. At the same time, we are surprised to hear about your experience because from our parent feedback forms, parents generally give very positive feedback about our frontdesk scheduling experience and many have in fact highlighted our \"non-salesy\" approach.

Regarding additional weekend charges, we have resisted doing this over the past 10 years we have been in operation, and only just put this in place last year. As you can understand, weekends are the busiest for us and we have responded over the years by opening on both weekends. Unfortuantely, the demand for weekend sessions continue to grow hence we had to put that in place to encourage parents who can attend weekday sessions to do so. This has in fact helped eased our waiting list for weekend sessions.

As a significant proportion of our clients come from parent and professional referrals, we do take our students' progress and parent satisfaction very seriously. We will be sending you a private message and hope that you can get in touch with us to help us understand better how we may have lapsed in our service so that we can improve and also for us to see if we can assist you further.

Many thanks,
BrainFit Studio Singapore

BrainFit Studio Singapore

Reply to Brainfit Studio - Discussion on Mon, 21 Jan 2013 12:45:55 GMT

hi kiasu-carer, i do not know much about brainFit classroom, but i must say they do use some programmes with pretty strong research proof and which are very well-designed from a neuroscience point of view.

i am a big fan of Dr Michael Merzenich's work http://merzenich.positscience.com/ , he was part of the team that invented the first cochlear implant to help hearing impaired individuals and also part of the team that created Fast ForWord, the programme brainfit classroom uses. you can read all about him and the programme in a book i highly-recommend \"the brain that changes itself\", available at kinokuniya. v easy to read for the layman and also has many other amazing real-life stories of people having their brains improved!

anyway, while it is true that computer-based educational programmes can be a pain when there are IT issues, we cannot deny that using computers and technology is the best way forward in education, since technology can adapt to the pace of each individual student while traditional one-teacher-to-many-students instruction caters only to a select group of students. i strongly believe teaching must adapt to the students and not have students adapt to curriculum!

mummy1901

Reply to Brainfit Studio - Discussion on Mon, 17 Dec 2012 14:03:32 GMT

Sigh. I can’t answer for that maybe boss there decided to close for personal reasons. I am not sure if you realise computers have been used by educators to improve learning hand in hand with good teachers. Were you ever told that your child was weak in English and was advised to read more but he wouldn’t? If so, like me you would be more appreciative of how technology like this has helped. My friend’s child was recommended to try it and he is autistic. Told me his child scored above 90 percent in Pathlight. He is on the home use programme. He just told me the reason for computer failure is because the host in USA does maintenance but it’s usually up and running in a day. I think we all know technology isn’t perfect. Maybe you can try to be more rational and not see things so negatively. Are you a parent?
