<![CDATA[Will my son accept the DSA offer?]]>My son has been given an offer by NUS High. But his favorite school is HCI. He will be asked to reply in the week of Oct 25. If yes, will he lose the choice of S1 posting when the PSLE result is out? Any good idea please? If no, we are afraid that he is not doing well enough to go to HCI... :? :? :?

If he is posted to his 1st choice school (waitlist as in your example), he will not be posted to his 2nd and 3rd Choices even though they are CO. However, if he is not successful in his 1st Choice, then he will be posted to his 2nd Choice school since it is CO. Not sure what you mean by \"forgoes the chance\". :?

Thanks. You answered my qns liao. What I means is that he/she was not posted to the 1st choice (wait list) and also miss the 2nd Choice (CO) because it was not selected as the first choice.

I think MOE's DSA website with FAQs clarifies this, and that it doesn't affect your COs if you put them as 2nd or 3rd choice.

The school should just persuade your son to select their school during the DSA selection process, provided he was already offered DSA. What's the point in doing a transfer after PSLE results? It would only go to show how fickle your son is if he changes his mind in the few weeks between the exercise of DSA option and S1 posting exercise. And that won't reflect well on your son. My boy was in such position (accepted a CO from ABC sch, then decided not to go ABC sch and wanted to go to NJC) last year and went to two sch to ask the appeal process.

HCI accepts appeal form on the same day PSLE results was released.

NJC accepts appeal form only after the central posting results are released.

So it is advisable for you to call up the general office of the sch you wish to appeal at to find out exactly how the sch processes appeal.

The school should just persuade your son to select their school during the DSA selection process, provided he was already offered DSA. What's the point in doing a transfer after PSLE results? It would only go to show how fickle your son is if he changes his mind in the few weeks between the exercise of DSA option and S1 posting exercise. And that won't reflect well on your son. Better to just make a decision and stick to it.

So I assume they failed to convince you to accept their DSA offer in the first place, otherwise there won't be any need to transfer later. What makes them think that your child would want to transfer if he does not want to take their DSA offer now? It is ok if the reasons are too personal to share.

there are some \"gang\" effect or peer pressure to go to certain schools

for us as parents we also consider the larger environment like school's traditions and culture, and how they operate and run certain courses
