At first he had a B in science which came as a shock to parents considering he always gets a A* for Science. They submitted the appeal and since they had low hopes for it, they applied to the schools which met his current t-score. After the appeal results came out, they were surprised. I think a week later, secondary school school posting results came out. Then they wanted to appeal to their dream school using their changed t-score, which is Anderson Secondary School. Their appeal to Anderson was successful. You can only pay for an review - and the answer would be the same as per said last year, and the year before, and before. The outcome is unlikely to change, so you are just paying for nothing.

2. You can only appeal if you meet the COP (which you would only know after everyone has been posted). Heart pain , teacher told me to be happy that it is not PSLE, and now that he made this mistake and has faced the pain of losing so many marks he will be careful in shading OAS.
Daughter used to get high A* for science consistently , except once in P6 sem1 she got 74.5, yeap a B, her only B in Primary school. It pained because she was applying for DSA and a B in science was jarring. Marks lost were not careless ones mostly, but a mark here and there and incorrect understanding/reading of question, tricky question, etc .

This was a while ago but we were told in a workshop by school for PSLE marking that for every question the teachers are given exhaustive rubrics so that there is no variation in marking between teachers. If the teachers come across an answer ( or method) that was not in the rubrics but is correct, then the solution is checked by the head and revised rubrics are provided and the question is marked again even for all the marked papers. And marking is done by two teachers individually and if there is a difference between the two markings, then a third teacher will evaluate. Totals are also calculated and crosschecked .

Extensive checks are taken to ensure no child is short changed.
But despite best efforts , there is a chance that there can be mistakes. Hence the appeal process. But do understand that the marking process is very thorough and there is an extremely small chance of error, especially of significant error.

Good that you filled the appeal form, you do what you must to ensure no stone left unturned from your side. But slowly get to grips that this might be the score and move on. If the appeal process changes the score then great bonus.

Your child's well being and self esteem are more important than any score. Only if you accept her score and assure her that it was a freak result, the marks are not reflective of her talent and effort, she will get over this and shine on. But you need to get the grips on the next things ara, hard as it maybe. Too much postmortem will not let you move on

All the best with the appeal process.

Sun_2010

Reply to Shall I appeal to MOE to check PSLE results? on Wed, 27 Nov 2019 06:20:22 GMT

floppy\" post_id=\"1950002\" time=\"1574833906\" user_id=\"97579:

Good suggestions but there is no chance for any verbal questioning. Is there a point to it if you make the child admit that s/he messed up? Fren’s kid, a prefect from a top class at a GEP centre (primary school), was expected to score high 250s. He eventually scored 21+ (Sec2 this year), his personality changed, often seems depressed. Fortunately, his parents, both educators, accepted his grades wholeheartedly, didn’t ask for an appeal & things brighten up. We’re happy for them.
