Is it neccessary for parent to go to sec 1 childโ€™s school on 1st day? How is it going to be like usually, or depend on the school?

Thank you for your message. I think my girl likes the company of the other children. My husband also does not want my girl to be alone in the home. In fact, the 2nd half of 2008, my girl stayed back 3 times a week, so the nanny "saved" on 3 lunches.

Whether $200 for 2 meals is good money or not is subjective. Sometimes, it is not money & helping out issue. People just see red (that we earn decent pay) when economy is bad and people are out of jobs. They would lament that they donโ€™t have a car, her husband has to work graveyard shift to put food on table.

So $450 is premium for an adult to "take care" of my girl who is a deep sleeper.

I am not sure if the nanny is willing to include my girl's share of both meals in future (ie she is taking care of another 3 sch going children & 1 toddler). She may not want the $200 or so because she can take in another kid at $450. $450 x 5 is > $2000

$200 just for 2 meals each day is quite good money for the nanny also. She just need to cook a little more, right ? Anyway, she needs to cook for the other kids as well. Your daughter can just drop by her place for meals and then go back home. Also, with CCAs etc, maybe she will need to stay in school for lunch a few days a week. Since the nanny has been taking care of your daughter for so long, I think you can try to make the arrangement.

How do your children settle their lunch/dinner?
Same as Zann, my son will need to settle lunch in school before he gets home. Dinner wise, I normally drop by my mum's place in the evening, which is 5 min drive away to pack home cooked food back.

For lunch, he will settle it in the school canteen every day before he goes home on his own. By dinner time I'll be back home to cook. Otherwise, we will settle dinner at a near-by food centre which we usually go to one of our identified Chinese rice store, which is not so oily and looks fresh. Try to eat more home cook food during weekend also. Try to buy organic vegie and use olive oil to cook. Haha, ... kiasu parents don't just worry about school work.

Yes, he will be home alone after school. Not sure how many hours he will have at home each day before I get back, but he has promised me that he will not play computer games and watch the TV before he finishes his homework for the day :lol: So, I shall wait and see if I need to \"lock\" up the computer and TV sets.

I guess, at least for the 1st few months, we still need to monitor their progress in school. P6 to Sec 1 is a great jump. Need to be around to give them whatever support they need.

Mummy was worried as heโ€™s the only boy from Holy Innocent Pri to St Andrew Sec โ€ฆ

12 or 13 years old, they are growing up and need breathing space for themselves. Mummies give your children a break !

I am sure by sec 1, the kids will want to be left to enjoy themselves away from the prying eyes of their parents. So no, I am sure parents do not need to follow their kids to school on the first day of their secondary school lives.

I think I would be embarrassed if I see my parents lurking around my secondary school on my very first day there ๐Ÿ˜„ .

That is why I thought unless really needed, don't go along. Any experienced parents, would appreicate your sharing.
