any good teachers for the younger kids to recommend, any1?

We also have about 3 years experience with Seimpi. I must say some teachers are able to engage and motivate children at young age while others are not.

Other than the make up classes, I also do not like the way they handle cases where teacher goes on maternity leave. The relief teacher for the group class conducts lesson like it is for individual lessons with no games at all for child 4 years old. Teacher is late, end class on the dot, unable to engage child. He expects them to write the notes and play the pieces one following another. How to let child continue if child do not even want to go for music lesson anymore and end up crying each time compare to looking forward to go to lesson when the other teacher is around?

In the end, have to withdraw child and there is no refund or waiver by the management for putting in a sub standard teacher. The management is only concern of making profit and not the quality. Parents prefer to continue class after the maternity teacher is back but school prefers to continue with a relief teacher. How could we put up 4 months with such a teacher in this case? If school cares, it should agree to let the teacher on maternity to continue teaching the class when she returns since parents do not mind to stop for 4 months. Now, with only one child left, the class is forced to disband.

I will not comment on which music school is better in Singapore. But know that it is very hard to have the same teacher for years in a music school because like what someone has said earlier teachers will either leave once they are experienced enough or dissastified with the management. To be honest a lot of music schools do not pay teachers well and have a lot of restrictions and rules that teachers have to follow.

Some advice on on how to get good/decent piano teachers in music schools:
1. Interview the piano teacher in the trial lesson. I posted a thread on choosing a piano teacher and you should raise your concerns to the prospective teachers. Discuss also with the principal/manager the course structure and expected progress if possible.
2. Please ask the school or teacher to reproduce his/her MOE issued teaching license. Note that ALL music school piano teachers have to be registered with MOE through OBLS before commencement of work. I understand that a lot of music schools now attempt to cut corners because of massive shortage of piano teachers around Singapore now. I know some schools do not even bother applying licenses for the teachers. It is illegal for teachers to teach in music schools without MOE license.

I am also looking for some other music school, once my replacement classes are fully utilised.
Coz i can forsee myself using the remaining when we go for holidays. :evil:
Actually it works out to $30 for a 45 mins session with a class of 6.
Hmmm... abit heartache if i miss the lesson.

Understand that yamaha teaches listening by the ear...
Not sure its gd or not.

hi, my daughter is also with seimpi under MIM In Me but currently she has shown lesser & lesser interest so i am thibking to withdraw her & put her into ballet instead.

she went to a trial class before & she really enjoys the lesson.

Which seimpi are you with? I've enquired and not sure if this is the one or Yamaha music wonderland, or just take yamaha electone classes so am weighing my choices!

And gosh... I was confounded with those different prices for master teacher, senior teacher etc... makes me feel like when I'm going for facial and ask to top up $$ for this serum and that cream...

Which other music schools allow for makeup? I'm not sure if yamaha does....

The only thing i dislike abt the school is, they only allow makeup class 4 times each year. For my dd's class, everyone had utilised 2 make up classes even though its only Mar now. Its very common to miss the lesson, esp when the kid is sick and u do not wan to be accuse of spreading germs in class.

I dont mind paying for period where the school is close for holidays. For instance, next wk is the one week school holiday and the school is close the entire week. So for the month of Mar, we only attended 3 lesson even though we paid for the month's fee. Its fine for us.

In turn, the management should recipocrate with not being so sticky with makeup class as it cost them practically nothing at all. The makeup class is merely sloting the student to another exisitng similar class the following wk.

Once i have use up my 4 makeup classes entitlement, i will move on to another music school since there is no lack of such school in spore.

I'm sure the rest of the classmates will do the same. Everyone is slowly dropping out and the class is currently conducted in half capacity from the past.

My daughter is with Simpie. They are good. My dd’s teacher is very nice, dedicated and wonderful teacher. She started with her in 2006. when they were in JL specialist center building. now moved to funan. same teacher…

It’s very difficult to get teachers to stay "loyal" to a school. At some point, teachers will branch out on their own to teach privately. Music schools are generally for those who either just want to teach part time or wanting to gain some experience.

Music teachers are very mobile. Most are freelance and they don’t work exclusively for one centre. High t/o is normal. Unless the child is taught by the owner of the school:-).

Recently this year, i saw that there was quite a high turn over of teachers and staff in the school. There was some staff like Celine and Shirley and last time also a staff name Siew Mei who was very good but all disappear. Don't know why the management let them go. They are very friendly and provided good service compare to the staff now. Recently there was a new malay girl who was quite stuck up. Quite dissapointed with the management. The good teachers like Shenny also left.

I think the teachers in the school was good. Parents, do you have any bad experience with the school to share?

I had the same experience too with the young skinny malay girl but she is no longer there and the new staff in Funan are just as good as the old ones and I find that the new ones are even more professional:) The old one are gone and just hope the new ones are equally good.

My child was previously with teacher Shenny and from what I understand from the teacher, she left because she had to further her studies and my child is now transfered to another teacher and I must say that we had a good experience with Seimpi so far and its been like 3 years now.

To tell the truth my short experience with them has not been good. The teacher was not good and the session was not structured. It was like oh she suddenly remember something then she will do. totally waste of time and money.
