I think it was just bc the other schools gave the offers by end of August, so some parents got abit worried that NJC didn't. So maybe it seemed soooooo late. The previous year, NJC did that too. In fact, I think last year, they gave out slightly earlier. For 2009, I rmbr they timed it such that we received the letter exactly on 4th Sep. The most interesting part of it was, receiving my friend's SMS saying she received the letter for her son, but then we already opened the letterbox and there was no letter! And it was 5pm. Then after a trip out later, we came home around 6.45pm and couldn't help but try looking in the letterbox again, and lo and behold, there WAS a letter from NJC in the letterbox!!!!!! Yeah, our postman sends mails 2x/day. Scary though. haha!

thanks for the MOE link....should not have thought of the other schools' earlier result date as the guideline date...Oct is already PSLE...so it could never be after sitting for the PSLE

My grades? P4 all band 1 P5 one astar and The rest all A

Hi,
I know you are very eager to go to RI and kept wondering what are your chances. If that is really your choice, why worry about high / low chance? Even if someone told you high chance, there is still a chance of failure. Similarly, if someone told you low chance, there is still a chance of success. Why not just apply for RI DSA and go for it - see how you perform and go thru the selection process. It is a learning experience for you and whatever is the outcome, there is still the PSLE route. I don't think it was as late as October lah - NJC would never go beyond those dates.

I'm not sure about the October - are you referring to the dates they are supposed to Exercise their Preferences?(this always makes me think of Exercising an Option to Purchase property. HAHAH!). Last year 2010's Exercise School Preference Stage was 25 October 2010 to 29 October 2010.

I might have mixed up with the dates.....as I remember parents were asking in the DSA thread how come so late still waiting for NJC offers so anxiously ....and I only kept track on end Aug date as that was the dates my DS' DSA schools promised result dates (sorry I am lazy to plough through that thread again)

it is also noticed that at least in the last two years, a few schools (RGS/HCI/RI/NUSH) uncompromisingly set their test dates / camp dates for the DSA candidates on the same days....it is like forcing them to make a choice even before the test is done......though RI/RGS have many GAT test dates to choose from, the subject selection test (round 2 after GAT) is still falling on same date as other schools

Its heartening to have parents like you providing reliable information in this forum. I believe many parents benifited.

I always tell parents is good to go the dsa route if their kids are ready. However, kids need only to opt in after receiving co/wl. All these take place just right after their PSLE. Only opt for their dream school and not to opt one they have no intention to make good their options.

After all, they should be in a good position to assess how they performed in the exam.

Notice parents have too many things to worry. My ordinary dd had taken the GAT test before, no preparation also did not face difficulties.

My philosophy is just simple, do not need to go the extra mile to get into top schools. Why put undue stress on our kids?

Just be consistent and let God decide which school they should go.
