Another thing happened …

There is this 2023 Sec 4 class.

During pu hua Chinese lessons,
the laoshi inside this class assigned to teach them,

1) asked the students in this class, to do their own revision,
instead of

preparing them for pu-hua (O level), which is coming up (akan datang) in 4 months’ time, with very short time left, on

Monday, 29 May 2023.

And

2) during Chinese lessons, this laoshi was looking at her own hand phone.

Why is the laoshi in this 2023 Sec 4 class

1) asking students to revise their own work,

Instead of

Teaching them,

knowing jolly well that in 4 months’ time,
they have to sit for Pu hua (O level), on Monday, 29 May 2023 ?

As a school Principal,
do u think
4 months is coming fast (soon)

OR

still got plenty of time, ahead ?

guess what ?

In the end,
some of this class girls actually went to the girls’ toilet during Chinese lessons
and
chit chat amongst themselves,
since
they are told by their class laoshi to "revise your own work", as she is not teaching them Chinese during the normal curriculum teaching hours in school

And

2) why do u allow your school staff, this laoshi,

to use her handphone,
when she is supposed to be teaching Chinese in class, during normal school hours teaching curriculum time ?

Naturally, as a school Principal, when u approach this staff of yours, this laoshi may try to deny, if she still want to keep her teaching post inside your school, or continue to fetch her monthly good attractive salary from MOE every month, but doing very little for her students.

So, how to verify the truth ?
You can be more pro-active,

can check DIRECTLY
with the students for feedback, in this Sec 4 class instead.

3) how much Chinese teaching

Or O-level pu-hua preparation work,
or to what extent or degree,

is this laoshi helping this Sec 4 class to prepare for their coming May 2023 pu hua (O level ) ,

since 2022 Sec 3 started last year
OR
since 2023 Sec 4 started this year in January,

on a scale level,

say,
from 1 to 10,
with 1 being the lowest,
and 10 being the highest ?

Do not be shocked, by the students’ direct feedback.

why can't the school management here open up their hearts,

That means,

73 marks & above, u are allowed to take Double Science ?
No need 75.

when come to choosing your next year
2023 Sec 3 subject combination,
SAC Girls’ Secondary school want to do away with or remove that " single Pure " Science subject combination.

That is,
up to this year 2022 Sec 3,
girls (students) born in year 2007,

is the LAST batch
that still permit Sec 3 subject combination involving ONE Single Pure Science subject,
like, for example

- Pure Bio, plus
- Combined (Chemistry + Physics).

But,
from next year 2023 onwards,
no such Sec 3 subject combination allowed anymore !

This year (2022),
not many end of Sec 2 students are interested in taking up Sec 3 Triple Pure Science subject combination, unlike your Seniors who are one batch born earlier before you,
that is,
the current 2022 Sec 3s (born in year 2007).

So,
if let's say,
if this year's Sec 2 batch,
if the demand for Sec 3 Triple Pure Science (TPS) is low (poor),
not enough students to form or to open up one TPS class,
that means

at the very most,
u can only take up \"Double\" Pure Science subject combination.
Is this acceptable, ok, to u ?

If Yes, no issue.

If No ... then how ?
seek Transfer to some other Secondary schools just in time, to start TPS (Sec 3) ?

Anyway,
best to clarify and confirm with the school,

If most of the students in the class are hardworking type,

impossible

that 50% have failed 2022 Sec 3 Additional Maths both ( Term 1 and mid year Term 2) exam. Not 10% failed, but 50% so many failed. And failed not just Term 1 (February) only, but failed in Term 2 (May), as well.

Moreover,
since 50% students have failed and when students themselves requested for re-medial A-Maths lessons to buck up to improve, why did the Teacher ignore, turned down these students’ request ?

Surely,
as an A-Maths Teacher,
it is your responsibility to teach the class well, and to help your students. Furthermore, the initiative come from the students’ themselves, to request for re-medial lessons. You should be glad that u have got hardworking students, willing to attend re-medial lessons to improve themselves. So, what kind of poor teaching attitude problem, are u having ?

No way,
for a Teacher to administer a Bio exam test Paper, so very fast after "teach at supersonic speed" one Bio chapter!

Students,

you can also feedback to your FT (Form Teacher), to check with the whole class, to get more info.

The correct teaching approach,
must be in this sequence :-

1) Teach topic, thoroughly

2) students do assignment

3) Teacher marked assignment

4) Teacher return marked assigment to students

and

give feedback

where they have gone wrong and correct their mistakes

5) administer test at least 5 days after return of assignment,

so that

students can revise and consolidate what had been taught (covered) in class.

Some of your Upper Sec students have complained that u teach Bio too fast, in class. And precisely bec u teach too fast, a number of them don’t understand, don’t know what u are talking about. They catch no ball.

Example

They complained that for Term 1 Bio exam held (conducted) just last week (February 2022), there was one Upper Sec chapter on Pure Bio. But, u took only one short lesson session to teach at very fast, break-neck speed and very very fast, u go and test them for Term 1 exam. Actually, the detailed Bio content of this chapter, is not easy to master. Sorry to point out that the way you delivered the teaching content, the affected parents & students can’t accept.

Moreover, this group of students are sitting for GCE "O" level (Biology, SEAB exam code 6093). Hence, they are naturally upset & worried for Bio.

What, ought to be done ?

This shows that u do not know how to pitch and pace. Please speak SLOWER, so that your students can follow. Thank you for your patience, in listening to student’s feedback raw from the ground

If your students request that u please slow down because you talk too fast, please do so. No doubt you are highly qualified, but the ability to teach students clearly, properly and being well qualified are two, separate different matter. Since you are paid highly by MOE to teach, receiving a monthly salary to do a job, kindly take the Upper Sec students’ feedback, humbly.
