<![CDATA[P5 - What time do your kids finish after school ?]]>Almost everyday beside the regular CCA, my kid's class will have to stay back for extra lessons (Math, Science,Chinese, HCL)etc. Sometimes, she can only be back from 7.ooam to 5.30pm on two of the days. Do your kid's school have extra lessons for all the subjects? Although I think it's good to learn more before PSLE but just wonder why it can't be done during school hours. And the worst thing is, the school do not coordinate the timing .If she choose this lesson, she will miss that lesson. :?

CCA in Primary School is not as important compared to Seconary School unless you plan to use CCA to DSA to Sec School.

Seem like your kid's school arrange better. For example, my girl can only come back at 5.30pm every Wed & Thur. Free on Tue & Fri.


The only good thing is CCA is not compulsory...how else to do revision every night if he has to attend CCA ? After his supplementary lessons, he reaches at 345pm, take bath and snack. Must sleep and then refuse to get up. Tue and Thur nights are spent on school hw, nothing else 😢 . Time is so precious this year.

Check what is going on through ur child's work then decide if it is worth staying back.
U will be surprise ur child might h a more productive time at home doing his own revision w ur supervision.

What I told u abt what teachers do are v real. There are very dedicated ones (god bless them) but few r left as most r too involved w sch projects they r expected to do. then u decide what actions to take.

Teachers r human they get tired too so teaching is affected, but ranking system has made teachin only a small part of performance ranking in sch.

I'm ok with P5/6 having compulsory supplementary lessons since it's the push before the BIG one - PSLE. But I'm against supplementary for P1-3. It's just ridiculous. Schools mentioned having supp classes at lower-mid level are St Gabriel, St Andrews for eg.

Is it really true that the teachers have insufficient time to teach during curriculum for kids in P1-3 ? It's not like as in P6 where that extra time is required after school to do that crucial 'pumping' and intensive revision.

in the later stage, teachers usually just go thru the corrections of practice papers during supplementary,
for those who have gotten them right, it's quite a waste of time.

Mine daughter in P6 has Mon and Wed extended curriculum classes till 3.30pm and when I feedback to the Principal that I’m not in favour of it, the Principal told me that many parents like it. When ask whether the teacher can finished the subjects syllabus without the extended hours, the Principal relutantly replied only the bare minimum…

It seems to be the norm now for schools to conduct such supplementary or extended hours in school for show to MOE???

Mon - CCA

Tue - Free for the time being (There’s Maths remedial, but she’s not involved. Heard her saying that she wanted to go ask the Maths teacher whether she can attend or not!)

Wed - Chinese creative writing (enrichment)

Thu - Chinese Supplementary

Fri - School officially finishes at 3.45 pm

She will go straight to the after-sch care centre and finished up all her homework… On top of it, still got English n Chinese spelling. Luckily I made the right decision to change the after-sch centre! At least she’s motivated now to clear all the work before I picked her up at 6.30 pm!
