This post has been the de facto reference on converting CIP hours to LEAPS CCA grade points. However, the post was from 2010 and it has been 13 years since. Is it still valid today?

hi koalamummy,
CIP hours are compulsory in sec school.
Max is 5 points (contribute to the CCA grading sytem)
for 5 points , the pupils need to clock in min of 100 hrs
can refer to the following

100 or more hours - 5 points
80-99 hours - 4 points
60-79 hours - 3 points
40-59 hours - 2 points
24-39 hours - 1 point

My son told me that they have to clock 40 hours in 4 years, ie. 10 hours per year. But the school told them that in order to get scholarships, awards etc. you need 100 hours in 4 years. So they plan to do 25 hours this year.

I feel quite upset that students nowadays are \"driven\"/\"forced\" to do volunteer work just for sick of clocking enough CIP hours just to fulfill the requirement under the education system. It should be make a good learning process and experience in school thru civil education. Sincerity is more important.

Depends on school though. My school only notifies us about flag day events. Other cip, we have to search ourselves. Usually people go to the library. xD

At the beginning of the year, we advised DS to complete his 10 hours CIP yearly requirement ASAP since the real activities hadn't started. So he took up 2 events and completed his 10 hours during term 1. Later on, he joined the council which there were many activities that gave him CIP. And his project also entitled him to some CIP. Even the sabbatical he picked also gave him CIP + those compulsory CIP organized by school, he clocked a lot more than we expected. From my last post till now, he clocked a few more hours so up-to-date he should have over 100 CIP hours.

Only when you are Sec 1 - You are really on the Ball! Which Sec school are you planning to go to? By the way, you should try to gather the CIP hours in lower Sec. :lol:

Haha, this is e contradicting part. CIP are community work and suppose to be voluntary mah, yet its compulsory to clock no of hours.


And for ip schools, not much to worry abt the 2 points but yet its compulsory. Maybe to prepare for uni? Nowadays applying for scholarship don't simply based on results. I find its a good programe in general but i am not in favour of certain activities.
