As both schools have vast difference, e.g., govt and independent, co-ed and boys, non-IP and soon-to-be-IP, etc, we're not too sure which school is a better choice for him so would like to get any advice from students or parents who have kids in either school. (The only similarity we noticed is white uniform for boys in both schools... haha...)

We're also considering the DSA option for both schools. Just not sure if we should give it a try... dilemma dilemma... :?: BTW, does religion plays a part if we've decided on SJI cos we're non-Catholic?!?

Know it maybe a bit early to decide on school selection but would really appreciate your kind advice, if any. At least he knows where his priority lies and he, NOT US, is responsible for his future. Officially, school ends at 2.30 pm, but could end earlier, depending on their time-table. Unlike most schools I know, SJI does not allow the boys to use their hp during curriculum time. So, every morning, the form tutors will collect the boys' hp and return them during dismissal time. Even that, they are only allowed to use their hp in the canteen. Initially I felt that this is such a silly idea as ds has to use the public phone during recess time, to call home to inform me whenever he has to stay back after school for project discussion. But now, I am thankful that the school is practicing this, as I heard from my friends that their children, studying in other schools, are text messaging their friends even during lessons! There's even one instance where I saw a friend's dd posting a message on her mother's wall in facebook, telling her that she's bored as the lesson she's having at that moment was boring! One girl even recorded her classmates and teacher in class using her hp and posted the video on fb!
As bt_low mentioned, workload is manageable. The teachers are mostly old boys. They are approachable but I find ds form tutor very 'lor sor'..

junrahmat

Reply to SJI & Anderson Sec - Which is a better choice? on Wed, 13 Jul 2011 14:32:51 GMT

If you son joins CHS he may be overworked and become very stressed, which would not be good for the overall wellbeing of your child.

SJI open house is on the 16th July. So if you’re after results and very stringent discipline, SJI is not the school for you. In such cases other schools like Catholic High and ACS are more suitable for you(within the same results range of course). What SJI seems to produce though are happy students, who generally look forward to school and are much nicer people overall compared to other schools.

So overall, its a choice based on what you want for your son. Do you want results out of him? Try schools like CHS and Anderson. Do you want a refined gentlemen who is nice to be around? Choose SJI.
