I hope parents here can shed some lights as to what action should I take.

My ds1 attended chinese tuition with the same tutor for almost 2 years plus. Last Saturday, he cried after the tuition teacher left. He said that he doesn’t want to continue with the chinese tuition. I sat and talked to him and he mentioned that the teacher actually bend his finger, step on his feet and pull his cheek. He said the teacher did that as he did not answer her questions fast enough.

Dh who sent the teacher out told me that ds1 drifted off and didn’t give her the right answers despite her going thru with him a few times. She didn’t mentioned that he did anything to him.

Now both of us are disturbed by what happened. We have yet to speak to the teacher but intend to do so when she come by this weekend. This teacher is also my ds2 and ds3 childcare teacher.

But I think good tutors can perform magic. I failed my A-maths in Sec 3, and I met a wonderful tutor (lost contact…sorry) who transformed that into an A in O’s. To this day, I still have no clue how he did it. Best of all, i was in a GROUP class - his modus operandi was to have kids (of all levels) stream in for an hour and do their own work; anything we didn’t know, we’ll check with him.

Have you thought about an alternate environment for troubled kids? Such behavioral disorder can result to something traumatic and the kid needs to be in an environment that can promote growth through therapeutic sessions. I think it is important to know the circumstances that lead to the incident. For example, the child did not concentrate, is it because the question is too difficult? If say, the question is too difficult, that means the tutor did not have the patience to teach difficult questions. If not, it means that the child is a rotten apple, not wanting to learn properly.

If the tutor is impatient to teach difficult questions, of course u change tutor. if the child is not willingly to leard even easy questions, then sacking the tutor will send the wrong message to your child.

Also, if your child is unwillingly to learn, is it because he is already scoring A*? If that is the case, of course he will find tuition an unnecessary chore. If your child is a border line case and still dare to show bad attitude, then u have to really let him suffer the physical punishments.

Not matter how many students she have now, such behavior can be quite worrying.
