<![CDATA[24孝,弟子规 and 德道的故事 DVD]]>Recently i obtained a series of 24孝,弟子规 and 德道的故事 DVD from a taiwan organisation. The shows are in a form of cartoon.


My DS watch it as well as i've converted it to Iphone format and he likes it as there are very cute scenes. I duno if it will cultivate his character to be good but i somehow feels that its better than watching Ben 10 and Tom & Jerry which ocassionally i will allow him to watch.

Parents, what is your opinion about letting your child watch such chinese cartoons? :roll:

It’s the nurturing within the family unit that is important and not just knowing what is moral or otherwise. If they learn something in school and the parents (the authority at home) practise a different standard, the kids will only be confused, making the lessons ineffective.

My opinion is that kids from English speaking families cannot even speak Mandarin properly, reciting 弟子规 etc does not help because it is written in a very old form of Chinese which is no longer used now.

Our first priority is to make sure that our kids can carry out a conversation in Mandarin fluently. I think watching 喜羊羊 cartoons has more benefits. Note that the oral component is going to be much more important in schools.

Also don't forget that our kids need to be good in both English and Chinese. We need to prioritize and learn the most important things first, which is word recognition and speaking. Aim to teach a child to read long novels in both English and Chinese by P1.

If they still have free time, let them play lah.
