would suggest d practice is more prevalent than many ppl know.

In whatever standard, the 24+M for half year is ridiculous. This amount of money may be enough to run a small hospital for half year. The client agreed to take whatever bill you raise does not mean you can just chop them like that.

She will probably be held up as a cautionary tale.
d aftermath will be:
1. Dr SL future billings will be closely scrutinized, if she still has a practice in SG.
2. Other doctors will be very careful about billing exorbitant amounts.
3. There will be changes in SMC.

If d case hasn't gone to civil court, many Singaporeans will be none
d wiser for it.

but still the high medical cost won't come down, it is a one way traffic

Agree dat her opportunity costs is hard to quantify.
There is no fee structure for specialist doctors in Singapore.
They can charge any amount as they deem fit to charge.

IMO, it's not d red eyes effect in SMC.
d SMC is a professional body set up to monitor n maintain
d integrity of d medical profession.
Any wayward doctor is judged by their own peers.
D community is not dat big.
d fact dat in d first disciplinary hearing, d DC stepped down
without returning a verdict should tell u something, yes?

When she realized which tail she stepped on n
she n her hubby flew to Brunei to try to obtain a letter of good standing,
it was oredi too late to reverse d outcome.

i don’t like the high medical cost in singapore

but they also misunderstood the role of dr sl in the case as a personal physician to the vvip

they only focused on the financial bills from the subcon doctors, without and unable to quantify the financial cost of dr sl when they have to clear the clinic, on 24/7 standby (for the how many years ?), lots of the opportunity cost sacrificed by dr sl could not even be quantified, and also the infrastructure cost dr sl’s group. medical evacuation cost at 450k isn;t that expensive, can just call AEA to benchmark, that is only for ordinary joe…for a vvip, the evacuation would have to cost more with everything specially ordered

probably lots of green eyes in the smc, or she could have stepped on some tails. there was even a disclosure of dr ng eng hen made nett profit of $4.5m before he joined pap, and for dr sl’s clinic group profit of how much as reported ? with the discount sought by moh, the clinic’s profit is even lesser than dr ng’s previous pay, or may be in comparable range…so there is nothing out of the blue really (cannot remember exact numbers, agak agak only= don’t flame me, just chit chat here)

but one thing for sure here : it confirms the lucrativeness of specialist surgeon in singapore

and though i don’t like the high medical cost in singapore, such airing of such saga won’t bring down the medical cost in singapore either

she could be greedy but there is also a need to protect profit margin, without which it is difficult to maintain a specialist edge; chicken or egg - anyone can argue round and round it
