That's what I think too.[/quote]I cant agree more... *IMHO* Unless there is a small washing machine that is solely meant for socks, I think is more hygiene to hand-wash.

That's what I think too.[/quote]Why? You do use laundry soap to wash in your washing machine, right? And it goes through a rather thorough rinse cycle as well. I really don't see the problem. You washing machine gets washed with the clothes and whatever else you put in it.

I rub the dirty parts with a bar of soap and let them stand for a while and put them into a net to wash in the washing machine together with other white clothes. I also add 2 cups of bleach and let them soak in the machine for about 3 hours. If the stain is too stubborn, I wash them again which is not necessary most of the time. Heard from a friend that bleach will spoilt the washing machine but so far I don't have any problems.

For hubby's socks, I ask him to soak in the water with some soap powder after he comes back from his walk. I'll drain the water before I dump his socks into the machine with the rest of the clothes. I put my kids' socks into the net so that I don't have search for them when I hang up laundry.
Put soap powder and 1 cup of wide bleach to wash the clothes every night.

maybe but clothes aer not that clean too.

you sit everywhere, on floor, mrt/bus (goodness know what was on it earlier - some kids's shoes etc). seen people who dont mind leaning against fish counters to buy fish and rub their hands on their clothes after choosing fish and meat. lean their body against rubbish bins etc. even when preparing food at home, the blood and raw meat will sometimes stain the clothes.[/quote] :shock: Shocking but true.

Yeah, I have problems with my boy's school shoes too. I scrub and scrub and soak in Napisan (which is like Vanish) but the shoes are still grey...

i remove the dirty black stains on my son's school shoes (
white trainers not the cloth type) with cif and rinse it off with water. great job.

I used Vanish or bleach. Need to soak a few hours.

I've tried Vanish too but the socks didn't come out any cleaner - unless I've been doing it wrongly?

What I will do is put the socks into a pail, add in half a spoon of Vanish (the spoon provided in the tub) and soak for about 1 hr (I think the instructions said cannot soak for too long). Then I will scrub before tipping them into the washing machine.

The only \"sure\" outcome is my pair of itchy hands as I'm allergic to the strong chemicals 😢

I'm not sure whether DS can wear those cheap pasar malam socks to school because his school socks are imprinted with the school name. So the socks may be part of the uniform.
DS' also have school socks with the school name sewn on. However, I noticed alot of kids (especially the older kids) not wearing them. So I just switched and no one has said anything so far - DS in P2 now...

Yes! I also want to know. I don't know how my DS does it but he manages to come back with grey socks - not just at the sole part but the top part also.

I've tried bleaching, soaking, scrubbing - doesn't work. Now resort to buying cheap ones at pasar malam, during warehouse sales etc and throwing away...

i turn them inside out and wash them with the rest of the white stuff using teh washing machine, laundry powder and conditioner.

but would like to know of other ways to prevent it from turning grey as well.
