<![CDATA[Being Naked In Front Of Kids]]>Hi Parents,


I will like to find out when you parents stop being naked in front of your kids.

My two boys are 5 and 8. I still allow them to see me naked while I am bathing or changing clothes.

The elder one though 8, does not seem to display any particular attention. I am always normal in front of them, and they don’t pay seem to bother too.

The reason that I did not stop them is I don’t feel the need to ‘hide’. Wouldn’t it make them feel more curious to know about mummy’s body or maybe other girl’s body in the future if I keep hiding from them. I tot maybe if they see it frequently, it will become ‘nothing’ in their eyes so their mind will not get too excited or curious about women’s body when they grow up. I don’t want my sons to grow up being to curious about sex and want them to treat it as a normal part of themselves.

I once overheard a boy of age about 7-8 yrs requesting his mum to let him go into the shower so that he can watch her bathe at a public pool. I was at the next cubicle bathing. The mum rejected him. I found it rather funny though. Son wanted to watch mum bathe and mum frantically refusing to let him watch.

While, I intend to stop when my boy shows sign of akwardness or puberty.
Will it be too late? Are you parents ok with being naked in front of yuor kids?

There needs to be boundaries, at least that’s what i think. As far as sexual abuse, i don’t think so lol but like i said, boundaries need to be set.

As Asians, I’m sure most, myself included, would feel shy to be naked even before a one year old kid. Europeans may be more open I think. Naked or not, ultimately it is the values we want to instill in our kids. As long as the child is brought up to be self-sustaining and mindful of the norms of the society he is in, we have done our part!

It’s really not abt us bcoz we’ve alr lived half our life & shld know what is appropriate & what is not, both in private & in private.

So, the area we’re nec in discourse wld be in the privacy of home, shld it be natural to hv our kids watch us in our birthday suit.

IMO, we’ve to consider what our kids will get out of it. Kids as you do as 2 years old (except for those very highly visual learners of age 1 & below with superb memories I can’t say but very few), I wld suggest we be cautious as these young learners may hv images built in them that lasts. These might affect them as we cannot guarantee it’ll not put our kids in emotional spin esp after their puberty the developing mind & emotions are not mature or coordinated as yet. We don’t want to set them up too early with images in their minds & interfering with their focus as students and developing young ppl.

I congratulate the sensibilities of Joanne25, as parents to exercise discretions with our young, young kids.

That wasn't practice in my growing (as far as I can remember) but also in our practice with our kid as well. I guess I am conservative too 🙂

To me it’s just awkward. I’m thinking its more of a family cultural thing. I have zero recollection of seeing my parents naked before, so naturally it feels awkward to be in front of my kid.

Kids can describe vividly naked parents to their frens in Sch ,enrichment classes , Sch buses etc then it is really funny to know their home stories abt naked parents n the color of their under garments !
