<![CDATA[Advice needed! Feeling cold during swimming lessons]]>Hi,


Wonder anyone can advise? My children are having weekly swimming lessons at 6pm (1hr lesson). 2 of my 3 children will feel very cold & shiver, lips will turn purpish in colour.

I gave them sambucol prior to the swimming class, and snacks & in between the lesson also gave hot Milo. But it doesn’t help.

The coach is not available at other timing, does anyone has any advice on what to do or take?

My older son completed Gold Star last year, and also all the life saving stages. He was 11 then and now growing fatter... :lol:

The younger one is just starting to learn to swim in his pyjamas... πŸ˜„ He is 6.

No I wont be joining any competition but I still run to keep fit due to injuries..back also giving pain now due to hard core training..lol

Anyway if it works & yr kids are happy wth it, tats good..who knows they will be better swimmer wth the extra weight in them.

My kids swim wear were those long sleeve swim top, so they wore the tee inside, can't tell they are wearing it.

My kids learnt swimming from a condo, I don't see any lifeguards around except security guards. I talked to the coach, he is ok for them to wear the extra tee and he agrees it worked better.

I had the same thinking like you, thought that the tee will absorb the water & more difficult to swim, but I see it worked well for my kids.

Just to share what my kids' swimming coach used to advise me on the life racer thermal. He said when buy the thermal, buy the exact size. If you buy slightly bigger, it will not be so fitting, thus the effects will not be so good. Normally for us parents, we will tend to buy bigger size for our kids cos they outgrow very fast, but for the life racer thermal, it is supposed to be fitting, so if too big, water can easily go in and it will makes them feel cold.

DS1 is tall and skinny, so even though the suit fits length-wise (in fact, it's a bit short), it is a bit loose around the body. maybe that's why DS1 is so cold. But DS2's suit is very fitting. i even have to squeeze DS2 into his suit as he is a bit tubby. But he's still cold!

I wished I can change to another earlier timing, but it's hard to find a good coach.
