Hand moisturing should also be thorough. You got to make sure you rub enough moisturiser into each and every corner of your hands for a few minutes and not just a few simple strokes. By rubbing thoroughly, you are ensuring that the moisturiser gets to the deeper layers of your skin instead of just sealing the surface.

It's like harden and thicken skin, typically found on master hand that holds things like mop/broom etc. I think this is hard to avoid or remove even with good moisturiser. Personally, I started having this after being SAHM and keep on worsening ie. harder and bigger. Eventually, I tried to wear a thick glove (like those exercise/bike kind)....basically to lessen the force on it. Thot it helped. These days, tho I have some help now, the blister has only grown softer, but cannot disappear entirely.

Broken holes ---- sounds like you had little water pimples which broke. Not sure if it's same as mine.....but it itches and spread if broken. Doc told me likely to be allergy caused by the detergents etc... best is to minimise contact eg. wear glove. Personally, my whole palm dries up and peels badly once I touch GIF too much.......again, lotion does not really help cos' the skin is dead, hence gotta target the root ie. use gloves to minimise and then moisturiser.

I think....different people react differently, personally I have tried Vaseline, Physiogel, Cetaphil, Nivea, Johnson Baby etc. The one I like most is still Vaseline and Cetaphil cos' it gets absorb fast.

BeContented

Reply to any hand cream to recommend? on Sat, 21 May 2011 13:25:18 GMT

If it is not very severe, try rubbing baby oil - cheap and good. After trying many brands, from normal, to cosmetic lines to natural to MLM, I now go with Physiogel CREAM (not the lotion), you can buy from any Guardian. It is a pharmaceutical brand for eczema and sensitive skin, with skin repairing lipids. It is more expensive than QV or Cetaphil, but unlike most pharmacy products, it is preservative-, fragrance-, colorant- free. Unlike other natural organic brands, it has engineered lipids that brings instant relief and is non-oily (or maybe because my skin is so dry and cracked). But the most important thing is still a pair of gloves, and consistency in applying the hand cream.

It is called - ‘Manicure Spa’ by Beauti-Control brand. This hand cream is also by a MLM company. If you are keen, do pm me. Thanks.

Hmm, seems to me like although MLM products are quite expensive, they do have some very good products.

I got the above happening about 6 months - 1 year after my DD was born. Not sure if its hormonal. Tried gloves and the detergent ( i was using mama lemon, which i have use for > 20 yrs w/o problem) still seep in abit from the end of the glove (and very troublesome too). Also started getting dry hands after washing my hands with soup supplied at office toilet (less moisturising quality?)

I tried many creams too. The one that work slightly (still not good enough though) better is a MLM product called Renew.

And then another colleague selling MLM introduce me to a Amway product for washing dishes. Its green in colour, to be diluted, and it works for me! No worse blisters and holes in the hands and no more pain while washing with tap water (cos of all the open wounds).

Hope my post will not be deleted and you will get to read it (and anyone else that got this problem) because it took me 3 years! before I found this solution!

BUt got to warn you, cos its not so strong, you will have problem washing oily dishes (my hubby complain alot)

leo
