Hi, I have been sending my kid to the Kip mcgrath bedok branch. it is convenient for me because i do my marketing there. The tutors in the centre are great. Sometimes when i cant make it for the lesson, make-up session was arranged by a lady over the counter. She is very meticulous in getting back to me and she makes sure the tutor is the same for make-up sessions. My daughter loves going down the centre. She sometimes comes home telling me she did well in her worksheets or computer work and was rewarded. Occasionally she comes home with a small gift. Seeing her happy there and coming home to want to do her homework is a GREAT feeling!!! Its a small group teaching. There's also no more than 5 students in a class.

There were times I forget to make my payment or short. (not for many times la. :p) They were very nice and was not rude or anything. Makes me feel paiseh for them to be so nice. I guess not all centres are the same. Im glad bedok south has great service!

I'm very backdated and read your last year's postings only now. :oops:
Have you tried Kip Mcgrath afterall, please?
I am thinking of sending my DS for math tuition centre.. and am toying between Kip Mcgrath or True Learning Centre (both these centres, I know about them via googling 😓 ). DS will be in Sec 2 next year.
Any feedback from any parents will be great! Or.. suggestions will be greatly appreciated too! ^_^

She did tell me before that she had difficulty hiring good help cos one of the requirements from their head office was they must hire only trained MOE teachers. Unless the policy has been changed recently since I have not spoken to that friend for a while.


But she also told me that she hired non-trained teachers (usu undergrads) as teacher-assistants.

I think largely depends on the centre. My kid went thru' a year of English lessons at BPP centre. They gave a few computer assignments and photocopies worksheets from assessment books and top sch papers. Little was done to work on the kid weakenss or assessing where the kid weakness is. We fedback to the teacher the kid is weak in compo and then the teacher gave the kid compo every week...
Little effort was used to explain on the mistakes done too...
There is a change of teachers frequently in the beginning of the year..and I was told that the teachers are either ex teachers or trained teachers...i doubt so cos my kid told me his teacher works at xxxx coy.

Erm.. My opinions might be abit biased cause i do conducted some classes at their branches
Basically you have to follow their system(you will be brief the guidelines before teaching there) cause it is a franchise. Of course, different tutors will add in some of their personal way of conducting the lessons.

Typical lessons will involve doing computer grade assignments, Customize materials for each child to practice, Explaining corrections and awarding stickers for assignments that are well done.

On the first day of my daughter’s lesson, i forgot to bring along my cheque book. The lady looked at me and requested " where’s your balance payment" in an unfriendly and loud tone. I was totally shaken by her voice. On the first day of lesson, my child enjoys the lesson so much! It was great and interesting but Week after week, the subject became drier and most of the time, she was asked to do her work but with very little supervision. I reakon that’s not my child’s preferred learning style and I would say the whole experience was quite unpleasant. After this episode, i became wiser in my selections of teachers/Tuition Centres.

May I know which level is your child? How is your child study? Personally I won't recommend Kip McGrath. Their system is like 5-6 students per session. And all could be doing different level/subject. Now u imagine. Each session is 90min. U divide 90 min by 5. That is 18 min per student! U tell me how is that even possible for any learning to take place?

Also, they claim that their tutor are NIE trained. But it doesnt mean that a Pri Sch teacher can teach Sec students or a Sec teacher can teach Pri students. It is quite different unless they have the experience in doing so.

Materials wise, a lot of them are from Australia. Now, I believe you would be better off buying assessment books in this instances.

Just my opinion. Maybe other parents who have more positive experience care to share their experience here?
