CCH Yishun has attracted many 230+ students in the north area since then. if i remember correctly, the COP of its first batch at the new campus (year 2007 batch taking PSLE in Oct 2006) was 234. it was this first batch with the higher COP acthieving a Band 3 in Olevel 2010. i believe this was one reason of its improvement jump from Band 6 to Band 3, not just by luck. you have also noticed its trend in these years. i am so clear abt its history because i was also interested in this school 4 years ago.

IB mugger

Reply to Looking for better 2nd & 3rd tier Secondary Schools on Fri, 28 Oct 2011 11:59:16 GMT

ScaredyMum:
Hi,

Anyone with kids in CHS? Read someone mentioned that at most they only offer 30 places via DSA and mostly for sports? If have DSA then what is the minimum score for PSLE?

I know some of these so-call 2nd & 3rd tier schools also offer DSA, so parents should not think that DSA is only for the TOP schools. I was the one who made that comment on DSA(mostly for sports) on the DSA thread that you asked about earlier today. With DSA, the minimum to make good DSA offer is that for Express Stream (200). Same with all other schools.

From my observation, for past 3 years, CHS has offered DSA only for Sports & Chinese Orchestra, although in the years before, they also had DSA for Modern Dance and even Band for some years, but not in the last 3 years, that's all. I'm not sure if there'd be any DSA under band for the next few years or under MEP(which is where your \"piano\" would fall under, I think). That depends on the school. The criteria may or may not change with the new IP status from 2013. Perhaps they will just have a separate IP DSA like Victoria school did this year (VS didn't have any other DSA domain other than for sports & IP). And if the domain for DSA is not put up by the school, don't think we can apply, since on the application form, there is no \"Others\" even - you just have to tick either of the domain options listed on the form (Sports or Chinese Orchestra) - for this year, lah.

This is the webpage for CHS DSA this year, if you want to refer.
http://www.catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/index.php/news-a-events/general-news/80.html

I can't comment about how CHS secondary is run though, since i don't have any boys in the secondary section (altho' 2 of our boys were/are in the primary section).
