<![CDATA[Smiths Fish &amp; Chips]]>just went to this Smiths Fish & Chips along Tanjong Katong for dinner this evening. They claimed to be British Authentic Fish & Chips.


Long queue for food and for table. Very crowded. We waited for about 15 minutes for a table and about another 5 min for our food (order was placed immediately upon arrival there). Tables are free-seating, much like food court, so there are people standing around waiting for others to finish.

Quite a few type of fish are on the menu including cod, haddock, plaice, halibut, dory, etc, plus chicken & sausage for non-fish lovers. No Tartar sauce, just salt & vinegar. The food are wrapped in paper, british-style, no plates.

We did not try their pickled eggs and pickled onions. Not daring enough :oops:

the fish was nice & fresh. definitely worth the wait.

Tried the haddock and the original cod. Both were very bland. Not so nice.

How is the Greenwood one compared to Smiths? I tried Smiths (Haddock and Dory) and liked it, was wondering if Greenwood's one is of similar std or better as it looks a bit more atas haha..

But very expensive. I wonder if there are other fish and chippies that sell cheaper haddock? I really detest dory fish. It seems that all the places use dory, even Fish and Co. Anyone tried the Marks and Spencer frozen haddock fillets? Wonder if they are any good. Quite tempted to try but the thought of having to deep fry in my kitchen puts me off!

I had the cod and haddock. The haddock was better than the cod. Tastier. The chips were alright but rather oily. The mushy peas were good. Didn’t dare try the pickled eggs.

learnt that they have expanded. Beside Tanjong Katong, they are now also at Balmoral Plaza and Boat Quay.

Better to eat there. Pack back not as tasty.
This outlet at balmoral replaced waffle town. Happened to drive past one day and saw this fish and chip instead.
Anything fried isn't nice once packet...noodles included.

I am a big eater and I find the adult portion just nice for me.
I love the fact that they serve it in paper, like in the UK. I find the portions a bit big. Guess it's too little for two but too much for one.

Agree with you.
For that kind of price, I would expect proper plates and cutlery and not fish wrapped in paper with disposable cutlery and hardly any service at all.

For a good balance of fish, good service and comfortable dining, my all time favourite would be fish and co.

Adult portion is 2 pieces of fish about 8-9 inches long each. Kids’ meal is 1 piece of fish.

ta pao the fish will become a bit soggy and they don't provide malt vinegar for ta pao.

Then I must find a not so busy period to go down and try them out.
