My daughter is now in GEP after 2 years there. Now I send my other son there too. As parents, we must be fair to give people time to help our children improve. The fees there are reasonable and the EIS are really dedicated. Can tell they love the children & not work for money only. Also, it is important to enrol in the programmes they recommend after the Diagnostic Assessment. They are so established for so many years. I’ve recommended many friends and relatives there. I am glad I sent my childern there!

My son attended their auditory processing and IEP lessons. However, we withdrew him after 3 terms cause I don’t see much improvement in him. Am also contemplating to send him to Cognitive Development. Anyone has any feedback on Cognitive Development? Many thanks!

He attended the auditory processing disorder classes twice a week and IEP classes teice a week, all four times in a week. However we are ending the sessions when term ends in May. I did not find the lessons useful and saw very little improvement in my son’s development. The teachers tend to be young with cursory training - unlike other trained speech and IEP Therapists. Having gone through both the conventional categorical and non conventional categorical method, I am definitely inclined towards the former. I would be interested in Cognitive provided it is very different from Bridge which was disappointing after the media hype.

Meanwhile, I did send him for CMA abacus till P3 and then I stopped his lesson. Too much homework plus the school and tuition. In the school, he has chess lessons too and also he has been playing golf since K2. All these more or less help him to focus and concentration. When I chanced upon Cognitive, which at that time just open, I sent my son for the test. That was last year P3. They tested on his standard whether he is up to par; ie reading and understanding, maths etc. Was told that he is about half year behind so I decided to sign up. They have auditory, also using computer, silent reading, peck talk (b4 lesson start, will sit in a big circle, write on a list what is their target and also see the coach praise them one by one for job well done last week etc). I think more or less is the same but I chose cognitive cos look very clean, well plan for classrooms and feedback. My son will brought back his work and result (reading skill and comprehend the story)they had a test after reading the story book. In terms of comfort, I will choose cognitive. That’s my point of view.

Since you’ve gone for the assessment at both centres, do you mind to share what made you finally decide on Cognitive? How different are the two centres in their way of teaching?

My son has attended Bridge for two weeks for both the Auditory Processing Programme and the Individual Intervention programme. For the former, he does some computer exercises that train him in his auditory skills. This is useful for those with Sensory Intergration Disorder. For the latter, he does some neuro exercises to train him in his eye-hand coordination, and also some literacy training. He seems to enjoy the classes. Still monitoring his progress.

They will see whether he is up to par with his standard(that say if your son is P2). Then they’ll advise you what is needed and your concern about your son. What you want him to improve. So far, mine has improved. Teachers have complimented him. My son also cannot focus fully during the class. But after going through the programme, I should said we have seen alot of improvement. But it is a pity that it is very far and now his schedule in school is quite pack. Go and take a test and see for yourself.
