When we were in our teens, I remember my Dad will always book a few chalets or maybe a bungalow or 2. One will be occupied by family and the other will be for us kids and our friends. That way, they can chaperone our activities and yet not be in our faces all the time. We were not allowed to stay out overnight for any events but our friends are welcomed to stay at our chalet. Curfew was 10pm for as long as I can remember.

Think I will most probably be adopting the same arrangements. DD especially (DS no choice lah, gotta go army) will not be allowed to stay overnight anywhere and curfews must be observed, at least until they complete their studies or when they turn 21yrs of age, whichever is sooner. If they want to stay out, there must be a trusted adult overseeing them, preferably someone whom I know.

What we can do is to min. the danger that we put ourselves in. For example, if return home late, ask parents to wait at the void deck or bus stop.

It's easy, if you're willing to do some \"services\"..

Say, you offer to help them with the food, etc.. and can openly stay and monitor them liao.. Just find some \"Legal\" reason to stay lah.. like if you got car, can say, in case they need to go anyway.. got someone to drive them etc.. Then you just overnight with them, but hide in 1 of the room lah.. don't try to mix with them or they may drive you away..

Last Sat, we had a family debate after dinner about whether teenagers should go steady in BGR. We had a great time putting forth our views. Got to see my son's (14) values on the matter and it also was a subtle way to get him to understand what we parents view as standards for the family without being preachy.

I think, trust and communication is very important. I think we can't protect them from perversion (there's plenty from the web) or meeting people with immoral behavior, but if we can cultivate the right morals in their head, they'll know when to stay away, walk away, or not indulge in it. Rules can sometime backfire or make the forbidden fruit sweeter. If they want to hanky panky, they can do it anywhere, anytime, no need to be chalet.

but will u all parents stay on STOMP and see if any of the photos of teenagers in uniforms making out? in case its ur kids? :shock:
