<![CDATA[Maid need SGD150 to pay for airport tax]]>hihi! i am new here. in a very diffcult situation. hope to get some advice.


my indo maid has been working for me for 10months and suddenly wanted to go back after she got her first full pay of $340. she says she can feel that something had happened to her elder son and she wants to go back immediately. i let her go back for 1 week. i called her in indo and asked her whether her son in fine and if she still wants to come back. she say her son is fine and she still wans to come home, so i bought a return ticket for to come back this morning. this morning she called me and say need to pay airport tax of sgd50, if not they dun let them take plane.
i say i will remit to her. then she say it’s sgd150.
so i remit to her but she cannot make it for her plane, so i bought a new air ticket for her. i have been trying to call her hp but it’s always engaged.

anyone knows about this $150 airport tax from jakarta?

There is no more exit tax since 1 Jan 2011 but the ‘officer’ at the airport would extort money from maid returning or leaving the country.

And there is a regulation of certain fee for those maid to leave the country.

Can’t rely on printed regulation as it would be different on the field itself

Yes they need the ktkln card to exit. U can apply for her online and she can collect it at one of the collection points (mostly airport I think). I told my maid to collect on arrival in case she run into problems. My maid was very nervous about this before she went home. But it went smoothly. No payment needed

Thanks for your reply.. unfortunately, my agency is unreliable. to be frank, i called up this afternoon to check if they helped the maid with KTKLN application prior to her arrival, and i realised, to my utmost horror, they seemed CLUELESS about the KTKLN! Which i found unbelievable cos they are foremost maid agencies and they apparently have a good reputation! But apparently not.... Not a very good agency despite their apparent reputation. But thanks for replying junemum72, truly appreciate it!
Ask to speak to the manager or boss ! We don't pay agent fee for nothing !!

My grandma's maid requested to go back (contract not up yet) to settle family issues. Her husband had an affair and wants a divorce. She has a 5 year old daughter and some minor properties so she wants to have it settled. We gave her 10 days and she was agreeable. She still has a part of her pay (SGD 130) with us as a form of assurance. She was still contactable right up till yesterday - we waited for her in the airport in vain, only to find out from Garuda airlines that she was denied entry at Semarang because she does not have her KTKLN and has to pay an approximate 750,000 rp (later i was told 500,000 rp) for it.

Am stranded and not sure what I should do..
You may want to call your agent and ask for advice. They should know how to handle such case.

Following is the guideline on Maid home leave by Indonesia embassy.

The exit tax is IDR1million. If you did not apply for exemptions, she has to pay.

No point helping the maid to pay in Singapore as they (Indonesia Checkpoint) will still collect the money from the maid on departure (even though she show proof that it is paid in Singapore).

This happen to my friend's maid.

If she has your SG address in her passport (If her passport was issued in Indon you need to bring it to the Embassy for endorsement of your address), she does not have to pay the exit tax in Indonesia.
However the guys at the airport will try to pull a fast one on them and ask them to pay.
My maid's gone home 2x. On exiting Indo on her first trip, she was asked to pay (Indo- land of korupsi). And she did, despite my having told her before that she won't have to. (She even thought one of the guys was kind and helpful, helping her to bargain down the price :laugh: ).
But on the second trip she was not asked to pay.

Hi, I used to travel to and fro from Jakarta. The airport tax is only Indonesian Rupiah 150,000 which works out to be approx < SGD$25.
