I would like to work with my DS to prepare him for this coming PSLE’s oral, anybody can help to recommend the steps and books for PSLE’s oral?

Hi julialai and every KP who's reading a Kiasu Student post,

I was a pupil that took last year's PSLE so yeah I know what's the topics 🙂
For Chinese, it was a student activity centre for picture discussion, group work/teamwork for conversation topic, day 1 PSLE.
For English, erm I forgot liao >.< haha but you can always buy the past psle papers!
Good luck for oral! must score in oral as it is the easiest component!
Tips: for Chinese, just \"Si Bei\" all those good phrase to use for Picture and conversation if you're no good in Chinese (like me :P)

Strongly agreed. You can't just study the Science textbooks if you want to do well in Science. You need to get a few guide books to supplement the textbooks.

(1) Grading criteria
Pupils will be assessed on the following:
- pronunciation and articulation
- fluency and rhythm
- appropriate expression

(2) Pronunciation and articulation
(A) Enunciate the end consonants (e.g. -t, -k. -ch, -th, -d)
Church
Teeth
Dropped
Can’t

(B) Differentiate long and short vowel sounds
Examples:
Leaves vs Lives
Sheep vs Ship
Loose vs Lose

© Enunciate "-th" sound
Examples:
father (not fadder)
three (not tree)

(D) Pronouncing unfamiliar words
- Read phonetically.
- Decide on one pronunciation and use it consistently while reading the passage
- Do not pause at the word

Note for parents:

Hi everyone,

Nice video..I will show this to my DD too.

Below are the steps to download the video from youtube:
1) go to the video you want to download
2) copy the url link, do not close the youtube webpage yet...
3) then open another browser and type the below address to open another webpage which allows the download
http://obscurant1st.biz/videos
4) once this page is displayed, paste the youtube url link into the box, then press download
5) if the webpage ask for source code, don't panic. Just go back to the youtube webpage. Click on the View option in the menu bar. then click on Source or view source. this will display a notepad with lot of code. Just press Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C copy everything. then go back to the download webpage and paste the source code Ctrl+V. press download again.
6) now you will see different link. choose the link with best quality and click download and then save the video in your PC.

I tried this and it worked for me. Hope this works for everyone too..

Mom-in-law was genuinely puzzled that the textbooks can be so simple, and the oral exam so demanding.


After that, I let MIL read some SA1 Chinese model compos that DS brought home and she sat there looking even more puzzled and vaguely incredulous. Yes, really thankful to the teacher as dd scored 27/30 during the oral test on SA1. This severed as a wake up call and now she is very hardworking spending time to read out both EL and CL passage aloud everynight!

Hopefully can improve by few marks!

Your dd's school is really good in preparing the students for PSLE, even arrange for students to practise for their oral exam after school. My ds's school doesn't have it.

The video indeed captured and revealed a very high standard. Gotta face it…not all students can overcome fear and open up on that day. But it gave good pointers on what the examiners r looking out for.
