You can check Fitbits, Nike or Garmin. I personally prefer Garmin because they have fantastic features and durable, suits me best. I swim usually, so I am using the GarminSwim which is one of the best swim watch I chance upon. So probably have a bais view for Garmin.

Polar only higher end has GPS but is external. Otherwise distance measurement will based on footpod.

Garmin can’t work indoor (unless you buy their footpod) so, if you running on treadmill most of the time, polar will be better choice.

HRM - Garmin better because Polar HRM get messed up when you are running next to another runner who also uses Polar.

Battery life - Polar better because its uses battery. Garmin you need to charge it and each charge is only good for 8 hrs. It gets shorter as the watch age. Not suitable for ultra marathon or marathon (if battery age).
