The residents even used vulgarities on the civil servants.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Moulmein-Kallang GRC Denise Phua posted this message on her Facebook page on Thursday:

“This evening a group of staff from a govt agency shared with me how they were shouted at and verbally abused by some highly educated residents of an affluent estate. They sounded very discouraged.”

Most of the netizens who responded to her post were sympathetic, while öthers highlight that this is a “vicious cycle”, caused by “difficult” civil servants who are seen as abusing their authority. In return, residents treat them poorly, only to create more “difficult” civil servants.

On the post, a netizen shared a case where he witnessed civil servants being difficult on their part.

A government officer had demanded “by law” that the co-owner in a flat application must be present for a man to collect his house keys, despite the man in this case explaning that his wife was in the hospital delivering a baby. The man eventually walked out, cursing the officer after having lost his chance to collect his long-awaited house key.

__________________

so it didnt happened at moulmein-kallang grc, must be holland-bukit timah.........

orchard / river valley is in which grc ???? :scratchhead:

Reply to civil servants verbally abused by highly educated residents on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 07:37:39 GMT

jtoh:

bigsnoopy:
They have some form of backings by you know who.

Voldemort? :rotflmao:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

RRMummy

Reply to civil servants verbally abused by highly educated residents on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 07:37:35 GMT

I am not siding anyone but for HDB refusal to hand over the key unless both parties are around, i can totally understand that.

What if the couple are at not good terms and the person who pick up the keys refuse to allow the other party enters??? Or one party pick up the keys secretly without letting the other party knows.
This scenario struck me because I remembered a case in DD’s childcare centre. The Principal refused to let either parent pick up the child alone unless both are around. The parents were filing for divorce. If one sees from that point of view, one will fully understnad why the rigidness of HDB for insisting both parties to be around to collect the keys.

I went to collect DS2’s new passport with DS2, my ic, his then-current passport and the notice. The officer at the front desk told me I need his birthcert.

Okay, my fault for not reading the fine print that I need to bring birth cert. But I stood there and queried and queried why need birth cert - there is no DNA on it, no photos. And this is the 2nd passport!

Finally, I think becos i stood my ground, I was able to get the new passport - but only after I produced hubby and my ic (to show both singaporeans).
,and write on a piece of paper that the birth cert is still with us and is safe and sound.

To my dying day, I still will not be able to understand why need to bring birthcert to collect renewed passport for children. But at least in my case, the officer was finally willing to listen to reason.

Anyway this is only one side of the story. The reality is that I hear more stories about how high-handed civil servants are that make the ordinary man on the street frustrated with life in Singapore.

One example was my friend who went to ICA regarding his son’s passport. He has already communicated with an officer there beforehand and went down obediently as instructed. But when he arrived he was brushed aside and told off. The way around it? He had to call a relative who is another civil servant to speak with the ICA officer and then things went smoothly. So how for the rest of us who do not have connections?
