I am planning to re-employ a maid that used to work for me a few yrs back. I would like to find out how to go about it. Do I still have to go through maid agency to settle for me or otherwise?

We went through the process of employing maid who came from Philippine (not transferred in Singapore), but not sure whether we can do the current transfer by ourselves rather than engaging the agent, i.e. application to MOM and buying maid insurance from our insurance agent. It looks MOM has online application which looks simple.


Could you share whether it’s simply doable and what’s the procedure? Thanks.

Experiences from my relatives and friends are that the risk of them having the mindset of just coming here to 'look see and vacationing' is there.


My relative once had a maid from direct hiring, after having worked for 3 days told her that she wants to go back to her kampung as she had already been here and see a big city already... :faint: :faint: :faint:

How will you handle this if you were in my relative's shoe?

You need to apply for In-Principal approval from MOM. Can do it online. Then get insurance- best from NTUC, fast and efficient,

Most instructions are online from MOM website. I have always done DIY w/o any agent. But always from India.

Not sure if there are any requirements for maids from Philipines. Can check with MOM officer over phone but waiting time on MOM hotline is like 20mins min!

The maid used to work for her brother in Msia. But i check with maid agency, they said impossible, unless she is put under thir maid training centre and go through the 400 english questions practise, then they can bring her here , and go thru the same, take loan of 6 months salary to maid agency.

I will pay for her airfare, medical checkups, insurance and the necessary that needs to be done for the Singapore side. However, I expect her to pay for her passport.
