<![CDATA[Poll: How much is your maid getting now?]]>With all the talks flying around (vineyard news of maid salary increase, agencies accused of price-fixing and charged in court, etc), I thought of polling on the actual benefits you’re giving to your maid now. It will serve as a more realistic guideline of market rates/benefits in Singapore, and hopefully helpful to employers with maids. Appreciate if you could advise with the following:


1) Nationality (Phil / Indon / Myanmar / etc)
2) Salary per month
3) No. of off days per month (and what are the PH off days, if any)
4) No. of years of work experience in Singapore
5) No. of years with your household
6) Any other benefits
7) If you’re keen to provide description of the kind of work she does in your household, feel free to do so.

Hah? Expat gets maid allowance????!!! I thought only house allowance!! Why do expats enjoy all the perks???

I don't think very many expats receive a maid allowance nowadays - they are just generally on better salary packages so more willing to pay higher salaries. Those who come from countries where they don't have maids also find it hard to pay a $400 salary as they are not used to such low wages.

Hi there, my current agency is still having Indon. Maids at $400
+ $20 for no off day. I just change mine. They conduct regular face to face interview. You can check out Signature Maid agency. I been using them for many years. As my in don alway goes back after 2 years. Their website is http://www.signature.com.sg I go to the branch in AMK often.

I haven’t agree to her $500 yet and suddenly last night she came and apologize to me for changing her mind. She says she accept whatever I pay her. Seow?!!! Right? So now I intend to just pay $450 and give her bonus only on her last day. I find that 1 year renewal cannot negotiate and thinks that I must listen to her. I already prepare myself to get new maid. Then suddenly she came to tell me this.

I think your friend is correct. At least your helper is being honest. $500 is a large sum but it saves you a big headache from finding a new helper. As for bonus, you may want to negotiate with her..1/2 now and the other half when she completes her one year..just a thought...something to keep her going...
may be after the $500 she would want $550 .....

Normally the salary increment and 1 month bonus is for 2 years contract right? But now she’s only extending 1 year but she is still demanding the 1 month bonus. Now I m thinking whether should I extend the 1 year contract with her.


My friend told me the maid can also lie to say she willing to work 2 more years but changed her mind after receiving the bonus then there is nothing you can do about it too. As employers we still need to pay her air-ticket back. What do you all think?

the average increase of the salary per month is at least $100, and that the \"maid loan\" deduction of pay from the maid is still average 8 months of salary. Which means that compared to last time, the agency now pocket an extra $800 per maid. (You think their cost of recruiting maid just shot up by $800 per maid in no time ? trying to fool who ?).

now if they churn the maids at 100 maids per month, they are getting $800 x 100 = $80,000 per month of up front deduction paid by employers!

This is really profiteering....of course the fine for 'pay fixing' is really peanuts!

Other benefits : Yr end bonus. Holds a handphone. Airticket for her on yearly basis, if not going back home will still put the airticket money into her account.
Duties : household chores and helping out with 2 kids especially the younger ones.

Yes, she is great. That is why I always say I am one of the lucky ones. She is going back to get married come Sept and will be coming back here again after that.

She is very sensible and down to earth and because she has proven herself, she has a lot of freedom. And because of her character, everyone in my family, including even my aunts, kinda pamper her as well. haha.


Wow! Funz, you are lucky. Mine equally good as well as she is independent and i let her handle on her own. I sure hope she can work another 2 years with me. :please:

6) Any other benefits - own rm, allowed to use ph after 8pm or complete her work, can go to bed at 9pm or earlier if no more work to be done, CNY & Bday hongbao, 1 yr contract completion bonus (half a mth)
7) Job Scope: take care of the needs (food & uniform) of 2 kids age 12 & 15, wake up at 5.15am during sch days to help prepare and can go back to bed thereafter or wake up between 7 & 7.30am when kids do not need to go to sch, fetching kids from sch bus waiting point, grocery shopping & marketing, mopping daily, cleaning (follow a timetable, no need to clean every corner daily), cooking and ironing. A family of 4.
