just a writeup on wad i feel about badminton coachings in sg

i started my 4yr old on a group badminton training... to test whether he has the interest in the game...

as a badminton enthu myself, i can tell tat there are a lot of rubbish academies around.. more interested in earning your money than teaching them the correct and proper technique.

in the same group session as my boy, there was this sec 1 boy, who mentioned he has been training for 3years. its quite surprising to me, as all his strokes are wrong, techniques wrong, no proper footwork at all...

i will be sending my boy to another coach starting march, biggest issue is i need to travel from sembawang to telok blangah... but no choice as he can only become a good player in future with good and proper fundamentals..

good coaches = disciplined, tough n strict sessions.

Just wanna contribute here. My son is in competitive level, was in many tournaments so basically we know many coaches and badminton club. For a start, we just enroll him to badminton club nearest to our house. After learning 3yrs, we try for competition. Then it's an eye opener to know my son level. He lost terribly. Apparently for past 3 yrs, he is merely training under teenage assistant coach. Head coach use own name to get new student, but kids actually trained under teenager. Then we found him a better coach where he start his competitive journey. Not trying to belittle all coaches here as there are good coaches as well. But just wanna share some pattern of coach I know.

- Big name, big advertising but none of their students actually is competitive level.
- Have competitive student. But they only focus on these talented kids to maintain their name

Lastly to get good coach, be prepare to travel.

Hi! I have a 7 year old who’s keen on badminton since started playing leisurely. Have tried a 3 day badminton camp last week - and he is still keen. Any badminton academy (to recommend) around clementi/holland/Queenstown? I did manage to find this academy call be a champ...any review? Thanks

Any recommendation of where to buy badminton rackets?

I am not looking at those big sports shop like Royal Sportinghouse, but rather those run by knowledgeable people who will take time to recommend the appropriate racket to my son.
