      Udon:

      Hakim and Suresh had some money in the ratio of 13:8. When they each gave away $133, Hakim will have 4 times as much money as Suresh.

      How much did Hakim had at first?

      Hi

      Q2.. when same quantity is added or removed, the difference will remain the same...

      http://i50.tinypic.com/2vwa1dj.png\">

      At first, Hakim : Suresh --> 13 : 8 --> 39u : 24u (difference 15u)
      In the end, Hakim : Suresh --> 4 : 1 --> 20u : 5u (difference 15u)

      So, 19u --> $133, 1u --> 7

      39 x 7 = 273

      Hakim had $273 at first.

      cheers.

      Sorry, but I am still confused. Firstly, if Hakim had 39u at first and in the end he had 20u, how is this possible to translate to 19u => $133 since it is a reduction?

      Also, when I worked backwards using $273, I am not able to get the final ratio of 4:1. (I end up with Hakim:Suresh, $406:$301).

      Please help. Thank you.

        At first,Hakim:Suresh --> 39u:24u --> 373:168

          Thanks MathIzzzFun, I’ve got it now. Realized that it is "gave away" instead of "received".

              Hi and gd morning!

              Need help in following ques, pls DO NOT use algebra to solve the problem sums, Ty!

              1) For every radio that George assembled, he earned $8. A commission of $6 was paid to him for every 50 radios he assembled. How many radios must he assemble to earn $4236?

              2) Calvin had some marbles. He gave 63 of them to Danny and 2/5 of the remainder to Ellen. After that, he found that he still had 1/4 of his marbles left. A) What fraction of his marbles did he give to Danny? B) How many marbles did Calvin have at first?

              3) A packet of potato chips cost twice as much as a packet of nuts. John spent 3/5 of his money on 9 packets of potato chips. What was the most number of packets of nuts he could buy with the rest of his money?

              4) Two ropes, P and Q, were each cut into 3 equal pieces. Each piece cut from Rope Q was 2/5 longer than each piece cut from Rope P. if Rope P was 2m long, how long was Rope Q?

              5) Roy had a piece of string 3.5m long. He used 2/5 of it to tie a present and 3/7 of the remaining to tie a bundle of sticks. What was the length of the string used to tie the bundle of sticks? Is the answer correct?---->1-2/5=3/5, 3/5x3/7=9/35, 9/35x3.5=0.9 (Final answer)

                Hi

                Good Morning.

                You may use “Grouping Concept”

                For assembling a group of 50 radios, he earned (50*8) + 6 ----- 406

                4236 ------- 4060 + 176

                10 groups of 50 radios ------ 500

                176/8 ------ 22

                He must assemble 522 radios.

                Best wishes

                  50 radios --> ($8 x 50) x $ 6 = $406
                  $4236 / $406 = 10 R 176
                  No of radios assembled --> (50 x 10) + ($176 / $8) = 522

                    Hi

                    You may work with units or MD.

                    ¼ of marbles --------- 3 units

                    Total marbles -------- 12 units

                    7 units ------- 63
                    1 unit ------- 9

                    He gave to Danny 63/108 or 7/12 of his marbles.

                    Calvin had 108 (12*9) marbles at first.

                    Best wishes
