We are the parents and we do have rights, especially in K2 when you are paying a lot of money![/quote]This is the prob when there is no standard format in preschool. <br />The principals are afraid to be blamed for not preparing kids for P1, so they literally drill the K2s.  :siao: <br />Last year, my daughter's 听写 was even tougher than P1 level :stompfeet: she had to learn 8 词语, which is equivalent to 16 个字. <br />I didn't want to push her too much or she would be afraid of P1. I may provide ideas or give feedback but I want my kids to be the ones to come up with what they want to do. I may help out with some hands - on work if they are running out of time. If not, they should be the ones doing the projects. Otherwise he will have to sleep very late. Sometimes I will help him to check up meanings of the words and he will have to copy them (cannot type). Recently, there was a social studies project where he has to find out more info about Singapore's presidents. Not many parents will sit back and let his kid go into a tizzy over something that could be beyond his head. It could end up very discouraging for the child. But the other end of the spectrum where a child turns out a very polished work…worthy of a professional - that one I will tsk tsk.</p>

Parents can guide the children, show them how to find research material, give feedback etc, but no hands-on help. In the long run, it’s not good for the child because firstly, he doesn’t learn how to do such projects in the future, and there’ll be lots more of such projects as they get older. And secondly, what values are we imparting to our children when we teach them that it’s okay to claim credit for work which is not done by them.</p>

Of course the teacher will have to give them a good mark but the teacher will know that they didn’t do it themselves and the child won’t have any pride in getting a good mark for something he/she didn’t do…or at least they shouldn’t.<br /><br /><br />Sometimes we focus too much on the marks and not enough on the learning process. Which is better - they learn a lot and hand in something that is average as opposed to letting someone do it for them, learning nothing and getting an A?</p>
