<![CDATA[Have u start preparing your kids for SA1?]]>I am in a panic mode cos SA1 is around the corner and after the CA1 mock test (my gal's pri school do no have CA1 this year) I realise my gal is very weak in her math problems and comprehnsion. Now I am trying to revise with her math problems and comprehension. Hopefully practise make perfect and she can improve before SA1 πŸ™


Has anyone start revision already? Btw, care to advise how to revise Chinese?

During the mock exam i gave to my son earlier this morning, I reminded him to check. he sort of make marking for those he had checked, yet still turned up :x After i graded him, asked him to read the question and tell me the answer, he can get some of them right??!! :faint: My blood pressure like get risen at that moment!!!

Times is running out!! Exam's coming!! Mine English paper (all-paper 1 & 2,listening comp, spelling) on next friday!!!

Tell your son, in english the \"KER\" sound is for C; in mandarin the \"KER\" sound is for K. Try to guess as much as u can or expose more words to your boy.

No, my concern is when u finish, check through,then u can play. So far from the few mock papers i gave him he finished within 30 mins-1 hr. At home, time is much precious, after doing the papers, he sort of LATE for his computer game/TV time. Get kan cheong and rush to the computer. :stupid:

The very first mock paper which i gave him was last saturday. He did it in the kitchen (there is space constaints at my place) ALONE, unlike our usual revision/study alwys with mummy there most of the time. Sitting there for about 5 mins doing the papers, he stood in front of the fish tank (we have a fish tank in the kitchen) \"viewing\" or \"appreciating\" the fishes. From the living room, i can see his shadow (i close the door of the kitchen) in front of the fish tank, instead of sitting down. Me got to remind him \"is exam time, remain sitting & finish up your paper\" Then he continued doing but he half way through, he FLARED UP when he can't do. \"I DUNNO,WHAT IS THIS & THAT??I DUN WANT TO DO LIAO......\"
\"FORGET OUR DEAL THEN :evil: !\"I told him (our deal is, when u finish, u can have computer time for 1 hour, TV time no specific limit)
\"Aiyah,do lor! do lor! :x he replied.
In the end, he finished the paper within 45 mins, with not good score.

Coming the following mock papers, he did them quite ok, in terms of atttitude & score. At least i dun receive the NONSENSE from him.. πŸ™ πŸ™

i am not sure if it relates to the theme, but phonetically, the sound of K and C is the same, so that's why my boy gets his spelling wrong.

My boy's teacher provided detailed format on the exam paper, even mentioned the topics which will be tested. Actually is all they had learnt over the past 4 to 5 months lah! Worksheets and handouts have been given back to the kid, and mummy here going to STUDY with dear son..... :hugs:

Yr boy did a good one! :celebrate: I suppose the question u mentioned is 1 of the problem sum? Problem sum needs WORKING. We can't compare last time with current. Really, times are different liao. :!:

My son's PRACTICE PAPER turns out to be quite ok for the problem. There is a space for them to fill up the working and following by the sentence for them just to fill in the answer in the blank provided. Easier for them though, my dear son makes careless mistake like working done correctly, but answer (in that sentence) writes wronly; or vice versa :stupid:

Mummy here a bit stress out. Had been telling myself to relax for being FIRST TIME EXAM FOR KID. Ya, i had been doing constantly study/revision with my P1 boy yet still get worried/stress when exam date is drawing nearer. Tried to get past year school paper from teacher, but no avail; the teacher assured me that they will give PRACTICE PAPER which will be similar format to the actual exam. Yes, PRACTICE PAPER were given but i still find NOT ENOUGH.

Last weekend, passed by a shop selling TOP SCHOOL past year exam paper :idea: Had been telling myself not to STRESS my boy in doing these TOP SCHOOL paper, bought a SMALL pack though, consits of 1 English paper & 1 Maths paper from different TOP SCHOOL. And cost $3.50 not $35.00. Upon reaching home, let him relax for 1 hour, and HOME EXAM started. :?: I made him practice for 2 times since he didn't do well. My generous colleague knows i am stressing over with this, STRESS, should be HELP me more by sharing some TOP SCHOOL paper with me. She bought a BIG stack, saying her girl will not be able to finish all. And my eyes almost dropped out when seeing all the questions :shock: Well, this afternoon, i spotted questions from various schools and INVENTED/SET a new set of HOME EXAM paper. 😐 This coming long weekend will be hard on my dear son, with school homework and HOME EXAM..... 😞

Really hope i won't get over stressed with this FIRST EXAM EVER!! πŸ™ πŸ™ And hope my boy understand mummy's heart.... πŸ™

Written comprehension/spelling/tests are in May. I have given her some top schools SA papers to do. Initially she was so excited, kept asking me to get more for her. Now never do liao. I am going to get her to do them again this weekend…

Let me add on just one teeny thing
if i may... on top of the importance
of completing within time frame it is
also important to check the work done.

For the shading of MCQ, refer to both
papers upon completion to check the
answers shaded were in fact the ones
chosen in the first plc. Some children's
friends shared they lost marks from this.

For Maths, check all the workings. All the
questions attempted. Ensure all answers
from the workings also reflected the same
in the answer box/bracket or along the
answer statements (for problem sums).

Hahaa! This part my girl very famous for
accidentally writing for example, 78 on the
working which is correct but on the answer
box... 76. πŸ˜› But the working was correct,
still get pity marks. Hehee..

So, practise papers also help the children
with this factor. But on the actual day, better
not to have Maths Paper 1 and Paper 2 together.
I noticed when both Maths paper done in one day,
more careless mistakes. Stress mebbe...

Everyday 1 paper either EL, MT or Maths. Sometimes write EL composition. Don’t expect all correct while doing these papers (not genius) but will help to explain those that not so sure. I can see improvement along the way. The advantages are:


1. practice concentration, finish the paper within the time limit
2. exposure to different type of questions
3. help to build confident

More for the sharing..

For us we have a range to do - other than assessments, we have
reading time (+ oral prepz) and language games.. on top of her
homework completion.

For Maths oso the same - we do memory skills, Math games,
and revise formulae - i go over and over similar question types
that she is weak in, to test the retention of strategies i have taught
her to solve them (written + mental) - i just keep changing the numbers.

For other schools test paper, once a week.
I also use the school's mock test papers to revise
with her. Ultimately, its the school test paper she has
to excel in... not the top schools' papers, right? So i have
done up similar practise papers to do with her at home, again
i just change the names, the items, the pictures and the numbers.
The school question structure i let them remain the same.. based
on last year's results, this worked better than the top schools papers
cos different schools have different exam structure. I prefer to do more
practise with what the school gives out. This way i am also able to zoom
in on enhancing the areas that i know she normally faces difficulties with.

Alternatively, bitchymum... you can consider one subject a day
which can be better for zooming in on the weaker areas instead
of all 3 at once.

For us, we have had this routine for years now since N2.
We cover English on Mondays, Math on Tuesdays, Mother
Tongue on Wednesdays, Hands on games on Thursdays
and Art & Craft + Music Appreciation on Fridays. Now, its
like an invisible timetable for them on a daily basis. Like
wise for journal writing - daily.

When they come back from school everyday, after makan
and shower, they will get the respective assessment books
and games for the subject of the day..

I've posted something i do for comprehension, not sure if
it can also work for your child but you can try.. πŸ˜‰
