Has any of you ordered stuff from Amazon? I want to order some books and games for kids… Is delivery reliable and payment mode safe? Also, are shipment charges reasonable?

I tried to order something from a US website – abc.com via vpost for some clothings and my order was rejected. I guess it’s becos the credit card addy n the billing addy doesn’t tally. Anyway, via singapore vconceige, they are unable to help me to buy from this abc.com too.

So I went to amazon.com and found this piece of clothing I wanted. And it’s through a 3rd party which is abc.com company.

My Qs is will my order through amazon also get rejected because the 3rd party abc.com rejected me before??

I’m quite confused about ordering things from them…

I need some advise… thanks!

I ordered educational DVDs from Amazon.com frequently. Delivery is usually to my home (Singapore). Payment is by my VISA card in a secure site. Shipment and handling charges apply, but reasonable, I guess. Usually they are able to deliver with 1 week if items are in stock.

Amazon delivered my Wild Life & Big Cats in 8 - 10 days using expedited international delivery though I chose standard international shipping.

It's a compilation of Planet Earth & The Blue Planet Seas of Life. My daughter saw a couple of episodes on TV and wanted more.

At the time I ordered it, 1 May, it was at US$66.49, almost half the original price of US$120. It's at 38% off now (rem that Amazon's discounts fluctuate with time).

Postage for the package, which included 2 other DVDs, was US$14.47. Split equally, which is what AMazon does, Planet Earth cost me US$4.82 in postage.

Citibank charged me US$1 = SG$1.519.

So, my damage is SG$108.32 for Planet Earth + Blue Planet. 10 dvds @ $10.80 each.

Cheap right? 🙂

Order was shipped May 2 and arrived today, May 20 = 18 days.

Just sharing again so you all can save money.....

Sorry for the late response. If I'm not wrong, my research indicated that the Megaset contains the Solar System episodes. The Megaset includes season 1, season 2 and the solar system, IIRC. So once the price drops to a good level (I'm hoping for 40% off) it's a very good deal.

Am eyeing the The Universe collector's megaset (US99.95). Last week was at 89.95, this week dropped to 79.95.... I usually won't buy until the discount is at least 30%. 🙂
Just to demonstrate the point - 3 days ago the above set on Amazon went back up to 89.95, but today it has dropped down to USD69.95, i.e. 30% off.

The above is at 40% discount atm, in my reckoning that would be a very good price.

even if HMV had it, what price would it be I wonder? Compare Planet Earth. If Amazon you can buy at S$84 after discount, and HMV is selling at $174? This is for an item at US RRP US$80. So, since Wildlife Specials is US RRP $30, HMV might sell it at 30/80 x 174 = S$65. Speculative calculation...


BTW, if you want to buy locally, do consider places like LaserFlair and BlueMax - much much more reasonable than HMV, even for code 1s.

1) David Attenborough Wildlife Specials $17.99
2) Nature: Big Cats $17.99

Though not cheap when convert to SGD, these 2 titles HMV doesn’t have.

Thank you for your message. Both my DVD player (Sharp & Hyundai) can play region 1. Would go and exchange for region 1 & top up the difference.

I have few more stamps to go (ie members’ card). Every $20 purchase entitles 1 stamp. After 25 stamps, can have $25 off.

I am eyeing on Big Cats by BBC, 4 series (24 pounds), currently out of stock from BBC Shop but it does ship to S’pore. Should be region 2, again readability issue comes in. Amazon does not have it.

That's the issue esp. with the more adult-oriented movies, eg. Alien, Blade, etc.


But documentaries should not suffer much. But again, only someone who has reviewed both versions will know. That's where the internet plays a big part.

Tonight go check my DVD player whether can read region 1 or not. Coz my other National Geographic DVDs (according to the HMV person) are region 1 and my player can read. The region 3 Planet Earth (with 11 episodes) though original but I am still a bit uncomfortable with mandarin & cantonese languages added - not 100% original.

I obsessively compared the BBC series I have to the Discovery series that I recorded. Yes, yes, the BBC one has everything. You're right about the simpler narration by Sigourney Weaver too 😄 I enjoyed the BBC one more, cos somehow I kept thinking about aliens every time i hear Weaver's voice!

Ever since the days they tried to sell Star Trek TNG sets at $2XX when I was buying them at S$140 a set from US, I never bothered to buy from them again, unless I am not buying a code 1 release.

Actually can I double-check which set they are selling? HMV often has code 2 (UK) sets.
