Also, if a sec school is affiliated to a JC, how many points can he minus when apply to the JC ?

- Minimum of D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the 'O' Level examination.
- Minimum of ‘S’/ ‘D7’ grade for the H1/‘AO Level’ MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese.
- Minimum of 'S'/‘O’ grade for the H2/‘A Level’ MTLL paper taken at the 'A' Level examination.
- Pass in the MTL 'B' Syllabus paper at the 'A' Level examination.

If you are aiming for a polytechnic course, it is based on ELR2B2 and MT is not required.

Background on Language Elective Programme (Chinese)

7. The LEP(C) was first implemented in 1990. It aims at nurturing the language talent of students who have an aptitude for CL so that they can attain a higher level of proficiency and a better understanding of Chinese Language and Literature. It also allows academically able students to become effectively bilingual so as to better serve the nation.

8. The LEP(C) is a two-year programme which prepares students for the GCE ‘A’ Level Higher Chinese (HCL) with the option to offer HCL Special Paper. The course includes the study of classical and modern literature (poetry, prose, novels, and drama) and Chinese culture.

9. The LEP(C) provides a wide range of activities to enhance writing skills and a greater interest in the learning of CL. The activities include:

· Overseas immersion programmes
· Creative writing camps
· Publication of literary works
· Project work
· Visits to exhibitions and places of interest

Students are also given 1 to 2 bonus points based on their CCA performance. Normally, the maximum bonus points allowable are 4 points. However, students applying to Hwa Chong JC, Nanyang JC and Temasek JC for their Chinese LEP program can enjoy additional 2 bonus points. These students are therefore allowed up to a maximum of 6 bonus points.

No, that is not a very good mindset to have and it is not a very safe thing to do. For example a person in VS will enjoy minus 2 if they put VJC as first choice. However, VJC cut off point is 4 nett. Let's say the person has raw L1R5 of 10 points. After placing VJC as first choice, he will enjoy 4 bonus points to have 6 nett. But 6 will not qualify him to VJC and thus the affiliation points will be annulled and so he will actually only enjoy 2 bonus points to have 8 nett.

Am I right in saying that what you are trying to say is that if one did not get his/her affiliated school in the first choice, then the -2 points is useless when considered for 2nd choice (thus only enjoy -2 points). Therefore better play safe to do the HMT for another -2 points ?

yes. http://www.moe.gov.sg shows that the cut off points for RI and HCI last year were 3, i.e. L1R5 could be 7, minus 4 = 3
