Was told the couple from china were veteran coaches however it’s just another robotic way of coaching. The lady coach were on 1/2 inch heels and all she did was, "swim 4 laps free style", "4 laps breaststroke" etc. She spents the rest on the time checking her handphone.
The synchronize swimming coach (long hair lady) dressed in jeans and t shirt, dark eye wear gave some instructions to the students and she sat down throughout the training lesson meddling her handphone. Towards the last 15 mins, she stood up and gave verbal instructions because she notices parents were there watching, including myself.
The only time coaches were spotted serious in their job when apw is around.
I plan to withdraw my boy end of this year and look for a private coach instead. Really
waste time and waste money.

The APS swim class is the max of 4/5 students hence it is very easy to teach.

For team coaches, they are liked lecturers who not longer focus on the kid's understanding of languages for example 'a business management class'. In SWIM team, those who cannot catch up, will drop out along the way, the coaches do not have the time to get into the pool to teach those weaker ones. All teaching should be done in the 'Learn-to-Swim' or Endurance. hence the grader who sent a students to a swim team plays a vital role (He/she must be good enough to judge if the student is ready for competition). In a competitive swim team of 40, only a few can make it for the next level or sometimes not a single soul. The rest is the make up the numbers.

Also APS has a strong pool of 'learn to swim' students hence other coaches or other swim clubs will poach those potential ones.

I am not speaking for APS but hope parents can understand between a learning class and competitive team.

SWIM DAD Jeremy

SWIMDAD

Reply to Ang Peng Siong Swimming School on Mon, 24 Jun 2013 16:39:45 GMT

thanks for sharing. was considering to send my boys to them.

perhaps would reconsider

They were speaking the reality and their experiences, which I have learnt and then preempt in the swimming classes.

I have personally seen the team swimmers, and some of them have deplorable swim techniques, which if not corrected, will place them at the losing end of competitions. Hence, it is important that coaches and teachers and instructors, scrutinise every student’s strokes, breathing techniques, movement techniques, final dash techniques, etc, and correct them before it is too late for the potential Olympic swimmers.

Hence, all who teach/coach/instructs must do their jobs well.
I am not an APS staff (just in case I am promoting too much of the school), but just an ordinary parent who saw some good works done by the APS staff. But in any organisations, there are bound to be a few bad elements.
