Or if the camp is 3 days, 2 nights, can negotiate to let your kid only stay on the 2nd night for a try. Who knows, after the 2 days, he would ask why does he need to go home when everybody is staying back for the night. :idea:

for me, I can hard-sell, soft-sell but ultimately my kids gotta agree to go before I sign them up. Donch wanna truamatised them if they r not ready.

don’t "scare" them too young … let them enjoy day camp, they will like it and next time they will look forward to overnite camp when older

camps are used to build confidence in being away from family for the young kids and learn to live in community, give way to others etc

My P3 dd attends church organised day camp since P1. Even with her cousin as one of the camp master, she is still not ready to attend overnight camp. In her case, she’s happy to have all the day time fun and will not miss me. But nite time is another matter, and I won’t push her into it…yet. This mummy 不放心.

He isn’t sticky. In fact, he is quite independent when it comes to this kind of play play thing (not very independent when it comes to doing work). Only thing is, he can be quite emotional. Can cry when watching soapy drama.I think experienced organisers will tend to spot who can ‘survive’ in the camp, who cannot. If they can’t cope, they would inform parents?

I think doesn’t mean older means stronger emotional. Maybe the younger ones would do better, since all they want to do is to play! Forgot anything else, just play. Haha.

think most children are pampered in SG. But some are emotionally stronger while others not.

As for your child, as long as u feel he can cope with the camp and comfortable with the arrangement, then why not? The only concern which I feel may happen is that he cannot cope (maybe too young and too sticky) and then create problem for the organisers of the camp…donch forget, they have tens of kids to take care of.

I’ve heard of p5 kids breaking down during their school camp even though they r with their classmates.

well, he is very timid and VERY dependent. so i thot of sending him to a church camp. he’ a catholic, so we choose a catholic camp for that.

some are day camps

older boys with over nite camp may start around pri 5 ... depends on which church....some use hostels, some use low cost hotel out of the country, say in JB

camps are fun !

came across some churches that organize such camps, fee around $20 only. the idea is to let kids enjoy their hoiday, build up their independence, confidence, etc.

yes we do that every year

if parents who are non-Christian but are open about it, no harm, but bear in mind there will be teachings on commitment to God, community service, bible study, etc
