When they practice and look at the \"suggested answer keys\" few times, they will get to know what is expected. Even we parents learn in that way, right? Of course, understanding the concept is more important. For my DD, she does not have problems in understanding the concepts. For example, if we write \"the height did not increase\", it is considered wrong (at least in our school). They are expected to write it does not \"grow\"

If u tell the kids verbally, they will just say \"Yes Yes Yes\" But by doing more practice, they will remember. So I still think Practice or rather better exposure is important.

HAPPYH

Reply to How to improve section B for primary science? on Fri, 18 May 2012 00:52:38 GMT

HAPPYH:
The problem is they can understand and remember the concept but could not answer with the correct keywords.

For example - If u write \"The roots absorbs nutrition\" instead of \"It absorbs nutrients,\" u will be given 0 marks.

That is why many parents relie on past year exam papers and assessment books on top of tuition centres. Most 'Explain' questions are testing on at least one key concept. It is the duty of teachers to let kids know what the key concepts are.

Example, for Heat, there are only 3 broad key concepts.
1) Heat flow from a hotter place to a colder place,
2) Objects expand/change state/increase in temp when they gain heat.
