Unfortunately, back then I didn't know much about pianos and settled for my friend's which cost around $400. And to be honest, I'm losing interest in playing the piano because of it. I told my dad that I wanted a new one, but he was very reluctant.

Well, my dad told me he would buy one on two conditions... 1. I would have to find and tell him the piano shop(s) that I wanted to visit and 2. it must be cheap. The definition of cheap, in his opinion, is below S$2000. I'm having a headache looking at pianos on the internet (just so I can get an idea of how much they cost, and a lot of them are over the budget) ... I have no idea about brands but just don't want one of those China-made with European names, please... As for the Yamahas, tbey are obviously way out of my dad's 2k budget. Does any one know any piano shops/second-hand shops that I can try around Bukit Batok / CCK? I'm really determined to do this but this is such a tight budget...

P.S. As I suggested to aya in a pm, she should get the teacher to talk to her dad and explain the process of learning piano and the necessity of a good instrument. Her teacher should also update her parents constantly on her current progress so they know if aya is serious or not. That is why it is important that teachers keep a open line of communication with the parents.

Maybe as a parent who think that he knows you better than you know yourself. Maybe he thinks that renting one might be a better decision. I did suggested that to my friends who are not sure whether their kids have the interest to continue playing the pianos in the long term. Buying a piano more than $1000 is a major thing and also must think where to put.

Why you cannot ask your piano teacher? I thought your piano teacher might be able to advise you and help you source for a piano.

After my piano lesson ended, I was expecting him to take me to the music school to see the pianos, but he (told my mum to tell me) that he wants to RENT a piano? I don’t want to seem disrespectful but seriously … ? He says he will try to look out for ads on the newspaper. How long will it take him to do that??? And is he just trying to delay time/not get me a piano at all? He didn’t even tell that to me personally, he asked my mum to tell me all that. I guess he is trying to avoid me…

sighs, I don’t think I’m going to get a piano any time soon…
