I would like some advice on when is it a good age to bring a child to the zoo. 6 mths? 1 year? 2years? Or >2 years? Appreciate the reasons as well.

There was a zoo guide who provided commentary of the animals and another zoo keeper that fed the fishes. Almost every 15-30min, from 9.30am, there’ll be feeding and it’s quite exciting for the kids. We manage to catch the show (not sure if it is 11.30am) and we get to touch several animals like snake, hedgehog, turtles and close up with other animals like pelican, otter, some birds. Good visit. We left at 12.30pm.

For us we were members from the moment the kids were born. It's a nice environment for a stroll, either early mornings or late afternoons just before it closes. When they were young, I would push the pram, find a shady spot to bf them, then they grew older and started deciding the routes for us ... they'll run ahead, deciding which lookout points to go to. They know the place inside out coz we go almost on a weekly basis.

We are no longer members now, coz the kids are grown up and hardly around on weekends. But I really love the zoo. If DH is keen, I don't mind continuing the visits with him. He'll say I'm :siao:
we live quite far away from the zoo and also, we only hv one kid. So a zoo membership was not in the plan. I like our zoo but the weather is always too hot for me to enjoy it thoroughly.

So whenever we hv a chance to visit zoos in temperate countries, it would surely feature in our itinerary. After visiting some zoos abroad, I hv to say our zoo is still the best (don't talk about the weather) and it is clear why some thinks it is a world class zoo. :love:

My kid went to river safari already (preschool excursion). From the principal, they waited more than an hour just to see kaikai and jiajia. That day the two pandas were stressed, so the group was told. Poor kids. Poor teachers.

A colleague told me Similar thing - not worth going if need to pay full price. Despite that, I paid the fees ($20 for admission, two way school bus transport and KFC lunch). Because my little one was so looking forward to it, dutifully brought me the consent form everyday until I eventually signed it, then conscientiously counting down to the day of excursion. Haiz.... No matter how expensive or how reluctant I am, also must let him go la..... :moneyflies:

Hello I bought Zoo membership in March and Zoo gave me another $100 discount on the next membership. So I bought River Safari too & paid just $110 for family membership after discount.

The river cruise will only be ready by end of the year. I understand the current tix is $ 25 for adult and $16 for kid without cruise ride. When the cruise ride is ready, new tix price will be $ 35 and $22/23 for kid.

The big highlight is Kai Kai and Jia jia. The first time I saw them, Jia Jia was running around playfully for more than 15min. But the next few times I saw her, she was sleeping in her den and we saw her from CCTV images. So have to depend on your luck!

Another nice exhibit is Manatees Mermaid....but no comment for the rest... :oops:

So I want to say it will be a good deal to buy Zoo membership and ask them if there is a further $100 discount on the next park. Otherwise paying the standard ticket now is not worth it.

Personally I think the \"right age\" is the point when
- the child can recognize many of those animals in the zoo (at least the common one's eg elephant, tiger)
- can soak up information on the animals like tiger can roar, tiger has stripes etc

My child first went to the zoo at 2 yr old. We were there with another kid, 1 yr old, couldn't speak then. It was quite boring for the younger child as he couldn't understand a lot of the information and could not articulate his thoughts. Whereas my child (who started speaking at 12 months) was so happy to talk about the animals and what he knew about them. He could also soaked up those \"advanced info\" eg tigers come from different parts of the world.

When DS was young, we bought the annual pass for a year. That year we went there a few times, DS enjoyed himself every time.

Agreed with tankee. It is more worth to buy the annual pass.

You can always bring your child back to the enclosure that you miss (sometimes peak season, many visitors).

My DD loves to watch the performances / live shows especially Night Safari \"Creatures of the Night\" - never get tired of it. 😉

P6 science syllabus covers adaptation so it is good to let your child learn about the animals' different adaptation to the environment in a relax manner from young and at the same time have a nice family outing together 😉

We Q-ed for 45 mins outside but decide to head home because there will be another hour Q for the tram.


Last Fri, we went again. Long Q for the tram ride but crowd was clearing fast. Besides having to keep quiet throughout the tram ride, it was almost pitch dark at certain places and my 3yo was scared. At certain tram spots, the animals were just besides the tram and the kids were thrilled. We missed the show as it was already full. Decide to go for the trail instead. My kids aint night owls and they aint used to the dark. Was quite a frightening experience for them esp my 3yo, kept wanting to be carried and kept saying she’s tired and scared, wants to go home. However, my 2 older children enjoyed themselves and want to go back again.

For me, I prefer the Zoo/Bird Park.

The amphiteatere shows are always the same. The big bull elephant always shaking his head. Good alternative is to visit the botanical garden. Totally agree that going to Night Safari is really exp and don't get to see much.

Because it is at night, if your children are tired, you will be basically carrying them or pushing the stroller. But you need to get on the tram (needs to pay) to be able to get to some of the exhibits. Better off visiting other places of interest. Anyway it will be the first and last time for me.

Waterplay was the best. The animals-so so but good to have him identify the animals from the books he read and the pictures on TV. Used to have a family zoo card that includes the grandparents and maid, but with new management, they have to pay extra.

At 2yrs, they can walk on their own and relate what they see to us.
Feeling excited and touch the animals like rabbit, etc. and feed the parrots @Bird Park.
Play at the water park and enjoy the merry-go-round ride.
