Has anyone heard of any students successfully transferred to River Valley High School in Secondary 2 from other secondary schools previously?

From the website it states:

Does RV accept transfer students from other schools?
Parents can call the school at the end of the academic year to check if there are any vacancies. If there are, parents can apply and the student will sit for the aptitude tests.

I just want to know the success rate and will there be a higher chance if transferring from another SAP secondary school to RVHS.

It would be cool though. I've always wondered about why we must wear uniforms when going to school. It's aim is to enforce conformity at the cost of creativity. Yet most normal grade and high schools in the US doesn't require uniforms. Universities all over the world require no uniforms either. So does it mean that the older we get, the less there is to \"conform\" :skeptical: .

RV will only retain students if their gpa is very low.

Q2 When it comes to selecting subject combi for Sec 3, what is the criteria i.e. based on L1R5 or total up ALL the subjects, including higher chinese to get the GPA to compare among the students? If my child is weak in higher chinese, he will be doubly disadvantaged rite?
Q3 Heard that when students are in Sec 1, they will be covering some Sec 2 syllabus for Science. Any idea abt how many % of what they will be studying in Sec 1 is comprised of Sec 2 syllabus?

Once they pass, they no longer need to do CHI anymore. HcL O levels is tough. My eldest boy (RV batch 2019) failed his HCL in yr 4. He repeated chi h1 in yr5 n got a distinction in that, wthout any pte tuition at all. In e end, his chi results not even printed in his A levels cert😅

Hi! There are students who didn't take HCL in primary school but managed to adapt to HCL in RV too. Students will be taught in differentiated groups at Sec 1 for Chinese so that the gap can bridged more easily.

It's a supportive environment at RV, both at teachers' and School Leaders' level, and even the PTA has a strong presence in the school too.

CCA commitment is heavy and he has more subjects to handle. I am still trying to make DS to be more systematic as the school gives out notes. He does not have the habit of doing filing regularly, so that frustrates me a lot. But his classmates are nice, whenever someone needs help with misplaced notes, they will send pictures over in their own WA groups. He is also in this phase where he hates to be micro-managed. I am learning to slowly let go for his growth.

Hi Slothie, there are actually many working parents in the PTA too. The best part of PTA other than the talks is also being able to connect with other RV parents. But of course, even if you're not a PTA member, some talks are still open to all RV parents (with a small fee).
