<![CDATA[Assessment Books for P5]]>Hi All


I have a son who will be P5 in 2012. Need to seek advice on which are the suitable assessment books to get for
English
Higher Chinese
Maths
Science
Oral for both languages

I only intend to get 1-2 books for each subject only as I understand that P5 workload will be high in preparation of PSLE in 2012.

Any good advice?

Ah...no, DS still struggles with English although I can see some improvement after I started focusing on compre. But since we stopped all revision for 2 weeks, I'm in fear when I start revision again on Monday...

I have been moving her in the direction of science...lower block.
As for English, I only managed to get her to do editing.
Plan to start English Daily Dose on 31/12. Then do exercises in cloze, vocab when school reopens. Thank goodness tuition still ongoing.

it's my turn to pull hair now.
my plan is start with daily dose day 1-5 at one go on sunday since the practices are short. then focus on vocab, cloze and comprehension during her MT-exempted time in school.

For DS, he doesn’t get to check dictionary while doing the paper as he does them during MT lessons in school (he’s exempted). I get him to check only after he’s done & it’s based on what he has circled or what I think he doesn’t know.

i'm looking at the 1st paper now. did your child require any assistance like referring to dictionary for some words? reading the comprehension cloze now...the jump from p4 to p5 English is quite significant :nailbite:

But p5, first papers 😓 .[/quote]I bought this title for p4 and I like the comprehension passages and cloze. so I bought the p5 one as well. now left with test paper 12 for p4. after reading your post, I went to take a look at the p5 and was taken aback with the comprehension...yes, the 1st one on natural disasters is not easy...I am prepared to hear some complaints.

I am not fast...checked with a chinese tuition centre to see if can register son there but dropped the idea when i was told the teacher is already on chapter 5 of p5 chinese textbook liao. :yikes: Stating jan will be chat 6. Now that is super fast 😉

I find Pearson challenging for vocab. Casco English test paper is not bad as it covers all components of english…it is also a revised edition.


I like Daily Dose…perfect for daily/weekly revision.

I realise that English vocab and compre is quite a jump in P3 itself already. Yes P3, not P5. I dare not think when it comes to P5 English. 😓

Any good P3 English assessment book to recommend for vocab and compre for a high ability kid? Sorry for asking this off topic question here as my rationale is that P5 parents had already gone through P3 and hence may have some good suggestions/recommendations to share here with me. :razz:

however, there is one recommendation...'the ultimate guide to mastering comprehension' by shaheed salim.
it teaches kids inference skills from level 1. personally I find my daughter much better where such questions in OE are concerned.
