There was a TV in their bedroom, and in the "family room" (it was roomy house). So I never got used to having the TV on all the time, or eating in front of the TV. Meals were strictly only eaten at the dining table.

With kids and in an HDB flat, it’s a bit harder to not have the TV in the living room as we don’t want the kids on our bed. But we’ve always been very strict about TV watching, and don’t have the TV on during meals (except during the NDP most years and the recent Olympics!). The TV is only switched on for specific programmes, and switched off after. We average 1-2 hours of TV a day (including 1 hr of news at night).

We also cut down on a lot of TV time ourselves after having kids (mainly after they sleep…)

They are still young now, and still taking afternoon naps…so easier to fill up their waking hours with activities…but when they get older and time to drop their naps, maybe not so possible to keep the TV controller out of their reach by then…

Parents whose kids are not much exposed to TV since young, at what age will they start to compare with their friends in school who is watching what and they will also request to watch the same?
