This is what I mean by the world opening up to the children - we may be closing it for them without ourselves realizing it.

We have confined ourselves to only taking up the few kind of jobs because the 'alternatives' aren't appreciated or respected by society at large. The pay goes hand-in-hand with the perceived value, not its true value, so we have narrowed down our own \"alternatives\" for making a decent living. With our kids, the \"alternatives\" could well be less, not more.

Question:

If you pay ministers high pay because it is difficult to get people who are willing to go into politics, then why is the garbage collector not paid more since few people want to do his job?

locally, we still use the very inefficient way of using low talent low skill and large number of C.W

I just found out why he changed his mind that he wanted to be a construction worker - because there was a topic in his mother tongue that praises the work of construction workers, how they build our homes... :love:


If only everyone praises all kinds of work, and appreciate the true value each kind of occupation brings for the good of society, the children will also start being more appreciative, and perhaps, find the world opens up to them..

I will most probably tell them, in that case, better eat your veg and meats. Cos need a lot of muscles to do construction work.


On days when I have more energy, I might ask them what do they think construction workers do and how do they think one gets to be a construction worker, etc.

If his is long enough, can explore the topic further with something like the below (that we usually do when kids are interested in something. Below I anyhow came up with one. Actual one requires kid's input via guidance. Can be quite fun while introducing mind map to kids indirectly.):

why not ? good skills acquired

later can become good developer of real estate. I look at the eventual possibilities rather than treat it as a dead end

eg for so many years no one wanted to study civil engineering....now we are so short of it that we grab any civil engineering fresh grads from all over the world .....

haha... that was what i was thinking too. I think it's how we help our kids to shape their dreams.

I wanted to be an actress and tennis player (think Chris Evert) when young. But got poor hand-eye coordination, so there goes the tennis career. :skeptical:

And as for being a stage actress, can't get to join Broadway, so now I play different roles in life... as mommy, wifey, daughter, friend, office worker.... ๐Ÿ˜‰

They were 4yo and 6yo then.


Later on, jie jie decided that she will be the fashion designer and mei mei the tailor. I told them if they choose that path, then, be the best fashion design team around.

Anyway, kids change their minds about what they want to do all the time.

Maybe as long as it is a respectable career choice and they don't live off their parents ๐Ÿ˜“ ๐Ÿ˜“
