ERP is to regulate peak hours n especially congested roads ( but all said about congested roads, some roads or (a part of the road )are so badly designed that users are the one paying the price!). Tracking mileage already exist in the car, so no additional cost for govt! Like utility usage lor. If govt wants to increase tariff, all users pay And not only some car owners who is buying their 1st car or changing a car to meet family needs etc at a time when govt decides that there are too many cars or someone has made an error in projection!

agree. it should be means tested, so those with more kids and lower income should get heavy COE subsidy. cos for those with very young kids a car is really more a necessity than a luxury. and sure, they can always limit the make of the car to make sure that ppl don't overspend.

i see a couple in factory uniform, bought quite an old looking mitsubishi car to ferry their two little kids to childcare and nanny. felt quite sorry for them, the car cost must be a big financial burden. and all they are trying to do is bring up a family, perhaps let their children have a little more sleep in the morning, since it's faster to cover distances with a car than public transport (let's not get started on public transport when u have v young kids)...

All things equal, not considering other factors like size of ctry etc...they said LKY is brilliant. Ya....at the expense of the citizens lah....suck citizens dry.

Soon cars in SG are for the rich only...already now most of the SK plates are luxury cars. Public transport is crappy....taxi expensive, train congested n not reliable, bus accident. :siao:

Totally agree! I have 4 kids and a maid. All my kids need car seats. How to squeeze all into one sedan car? Want to change to MPV but with the current COE prices even 2nd hand MPV also dun come cheap!

I'm one of those affected by this high COE...need to change car cos of addition of 2 family members ...new baby+maid. Plus new booster seat rule means my 2nd child have to be on booster seat...it's so squeezy in my current sedan. Plus, if we bring maid out my baby wld have to be carried instead of in car seat (I dun like this!).


But too crazily high la COE, so we take our time to recce 2nd hand car sigh. N dun bring out maid unless necessary lor. See how long can do with this arrangement ..... SG are made for 2 kids or less lor.
See, that's what I mean by misaligned policy-making. Want to encourage more children, but bigger family means need bigger car (impractical to bring whole family on MRT or traveling in 2 cabs), and yet COE like that. Also, must have car seats and booster seats. Wah biang, how to fit the whole family har? Housing issue also the same - flats getting smaller. Bigger family also need maids, and now more stringent rules on maids... :slapshead: Erm, how do ministers actually communicate with each other to discuss how these policies jive with each other so that the various departments are heading the same direction har? :scratchhead:
